Yes: I plugged right into the amp. The cab and the guitar are fine. I kept on playing with a different head into the same setup.
The tech saw those high frequency oscillations in his oscilloscope, so it's the amp. Looks like it's amplifying frequencies beyond what people hear; very strange. I...
I have a Marshall 1959HW super lead and I like to crank it: every single knob on 8 or higher.
An issue recently came up: volume dropped dramatically while playing and it sounded strange; a "bees in a jar" output, but not like when the output transformer (OT) goes; it has a replaced OT from the...
Your thought is incomplete and unhelpful. If there is anything you think is wrong with the guitar, you should state it clearly and your reasoning for it, and I will gladly reply to you.
blues_n_cues, thanks for the note. I agree "there shouldn't be ANY smoke or other coming from an amp whether it be on 2 or 10."
Oatie, thank you for the suggestions. I'll get the Outlet Ground Tester and ask my tech to install 14 or 12 Ga power cords. I'm imagining maybe the smoke could be...
Hi all,
I'm writing to ask about fire safety while cranking 50W and 100W amps.
I'm afraid of causing fire as I have seen puffs of smoke a few times while playing my amps maxed out. Maybe it's just the tubes naturally outgassing or something worse.
I'm getting 4 of my amps for preventive...
Hey... thank you... very good resources! I actually thought the KT88 was a drop in replacement with no mods, so that was useful.
Here is what I found. I looked up the datasheet for the TAD KT66 you mentioned:

And I...
I haven't received the amp yet, but I bought a set of Valve Art KT66's on a whim, which I believe are from the Shuguang factory too. The amp comes with Gold Lions, but I don't think they can handle the voltages; it's a risk.
Problem is: I could not find spec sheets for those Valve Art's, the...
Hi folks,
I've just bought a Marshall JTM 45/100 (100JH) head and I noticed that the voltage spec of current production KT66 is really not a match for this amp. I'm thinking of putting in KT88's instead for that reason, but I don't know which would be best/closest/better than the best KT66...
haha. :)
I miss him too.
Brilliant amp with lots of gain and versatility, but I'm very skeptical about PCB stuff in terms of reliability and maintenance. With thermal expansion and contraction, there is more than a chance of stuff bending and soon enough (hard to repair) circuits shorting...
- The unfortunate thing about the Vintage Modern and the JCM2000 DSL100 is the PCB. I have trust issues with reliability and maintenance on anything with PCB's (not commenting on their tone - they are very likely fine sounding amps). Unfortunately, that, by itself, rules out most modern...
- I've just edited the original post to avoid confusion. Yes, definitely, I meant Royal Albert Hall, Cream's last performance. Amazing tone.
- I tend to agree with you on the DSL: that's one of the amps Gary Moore used to play anyway.
Question:
- Where do you find reliable information on that...
Hi Folks, my first post!
What's the best Marshall for (Royal Albert Hall) Cream and Gary Moore tones? And what speakers would you recommend?
From my research, it seems to be either the JTM45/100 or the JCM800, but I could be wrong: other Marshall's that caught my eye were the 1959HW, the...
