having trouble getting good od/dist with single coils

Well Strats will always sound thin compared to a Humbucker equipped guitar, even if you install hot rails or whatever. Part of the problem might be that you are using a distortion pedal. What you need is an Overdrive pedal i.e. Ibanez Tube Screamer or Boss OD I or II or any OD pedal will work...

    Weird Noises

Sounds like a preamp tube. Try switching them around or if you have a spare replace them one at a time. As far as that popping is concerned, that can be normal on some amps regardless of brand. You might have a capacitor that has gone out of spec in that part of the circuit that may cause that...

    General query

You have a ground loop problem, are you using power adapters on you DS1 and other stomp type boxes that are in that loop? if so try using batteries in them instead to see if it goes away. Then try using separate power adapters or higher ampacity power supplies for multi pedals.

    Interested in JCM800

For a vert input JCM800 2203 1500.00 is worth it. Verts on a 2204 don't matter as much as a 2203 there is no change in the amp on a 2204. But look for the vertical input on the 2203, it's a better amp.

    stacking the proper way

I remember back in 1989 we had this huge Earthquake in SF bay area Ca. I mean huge! I had this rehearsal studio in an old brick building in downtown San Jose. I had at the time two full stacks 2 1960a and two 1960b with two 2204 JCM 800 on top. I thought for sure the amps would be all over the...

    jcm800 2203 vs 1959

The 1959 and the 2203 are two completely different amps. The 2203 is not an updated version of the timeless 1959. They both are great amps, the 2203 has the master volume and a completely different gain stage and tone stack than the 1959. If you play hard rock or metal the 2203 is the amp for...

As a JCM900 DR owner.. I'm tired of seeing this amp bashed!!!

I owned a JCM 900 50 wt SL-X once. I gave it a week before I returned it, I found it quite lousy myself. I couldn't get a decent tone out of it at all. I remember it sounding very harsh. I think the EL34 version might be better.

    Help!

Yea, I spent some time on it last night till about 2:00 am this morning. I did notice how sensitive it is to the slightest twist of the preamp knobs. I love it so far!. I did get some vintage tones from it but those were at low volumes (2 o'clock in the morn.) I plan on crankin' that mofo up...

    Help!

Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post and thread. I just purchased a 2266 (VM 50watt head). I have owned several Marshall heads in the past and still have a JCM800 2204, but have been seeking the "Vintage" tone that comes from 1987s, 1959s and JTM 45 without paying big $$$$$ Can...
