    Re old Superbass Transformer....60s?

Hi Guys A friend of mine has just sent through these photos of an old transformer which he's had for ever. It's been in his shed and he has no idea how he came by it. However, it has a label on saying Superbass. A few not brilliant photos here wonder if anyone can shed any light? Is it a...

    Noise on '69 Superbass

Great advice......many thanks. I've had this issue before with slight distortion on decaying notes but this one definitely feels like it's amp related. I've ruled the guitar out....tried 3 now and no difference. As soon as I have some daylight tomorrow I'll try swapping the preamp valves...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

Yeah, I agree. There was little if any consistency with Marshall in the 60s and early '70s.....this goes for electrical components as well as aesthetics. If there is a really decent superglue out there like the one mentioned by soundboy57 then it may be worth a try.....at the end of the day...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

I'd be very interested to know what brand it is? I'm guessing you're in the US (and I'm in the UK) but you never know, might be able to get it here. Normally use Locktite and it's OK but I have to say I haven't had much luck with it.

    Noise on '69 Superbass

Hi Guys I thought I must pick your brains on this one. I have a stock '69 Superbass, only changes are a matched quad of JJs. I've noticed that when a note is decaying (particularly on the 'D' when hitting a 12th fret harmonic) the is a sound that I can only describe as being like small pieces...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

Perfect!! :applause: That really does sound like a plan.....I'll have a go and report back.

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

Interesting! Sounds like a plan! So's I've got it right.....you drilled the ends of the pins in the rear of the logo until you had a pin-sized depression. You then used pieces of the drill bit itself to act as pins? I assume you glued the ends of the drill bit pieces so they stayed in holes...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

You're probably right.......most people used to just glue them onto the tolex (shock horror) but with older heads I think that's probably considered to be sacrilege these days. The only option I thought of was to remove the old pins from the head box, make and insert new plastic pins and use...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

Hey George76......thanks so much for that. I find it impossible to tell the difference without having both in front of me. I meant to ask in the original post.......does anyone have any bright ideas in terms of re-fixing a logo that doesn't have pins? I'm guessing that glueing pins on may...

re pin spacing on plexi/JMP amp badge

Hi guys I hang my head in shame for raising this issue yet again but I have just found an old Marshall badge in a parts box and can't remember which amp it came from. The badge either came from a JMP or a slightly earlier amp. As you can see the letter 'r' on the badge is broken, clean...

    Fast or Slow Blow fuses

Many thanks for the helpful advice guys....appreciate it! Good to know I need slow blow fuses. Can't understand why I've never asked the question before!! :)

    Fast or Slow Blow fuses

That wasn't the question I asked! I'm WELL aware it should have a 1 amp fuse what I was asking is.....should it be slo blo or fast blow. Thanks for the unhelpful comment....

    1972 JMP 20 PA model 1917

I have two 1972 PA20s and just LOVE 'EM!!!!!! :) I'm a total loss on the technical side but thought it was worth mentioning that the two upper inputs are exactly the same, as are the 2 lower inputs. There should be no difference in tone or volume. However, using the amp this way, one input...

    Fast or Slow Blow fuses

Hi Guys Quick question......just realised there is a 500Ma fuse in the 1 amp fuse holder on my 1969 Superbass 100. Do I need a fast blow or slow blow fuse? Cheers!

FS: Pair of Sai 2x12 Cabs loaded with '75 Celestion G12H 75Hz Drivers UK

Hi Guys Another pair of 2x12 cabs. Also made in the UK in the early 70s by a small company in Lancashire called Sai. Amazing quality cabs constructed from 18mm marine ply. The cabs are well used but not abused. They're over 40 years old! The drivers consist of a quad of T1976 G12H...

FS: 60's Vox 2x12 Cab with '73 Fane 'Blue Label' Drivers UK

Hi Guys I have a pair of old Vox 2x12 cabs, late 60's, loaded with lovely old Fane POP 50 Blue Label drivers. The cabs are solid 18mm marine ply and even the backs of both cabs are 18mm ply. The tolex is far from perfect but I've seen a lot worse! The grillecloths on both cabs are excellent...

Re channels and biasing on '72 PA20

Thanks Pete and also LMP2204.......! Right, set to this morning and played the amp for about 20 minutes on channel 1....then jumpered it with channel 2, with the setting on both channels the same, and the increase in gain was astounding. I was using an old mid 60s tele straight into the head...
