JMP 50 Lost / Blown channel

That's the first thing to touble shoot on a tube amp is tubes.........swap out one at a time with a known good tube. Usually meaning that it sounds good thru a amp. Usaully starting at the back of the amp on the left side where the inputs are for the guitar cords. move in a circular motion being...

I need some help with tone...

for a Master Volume amp I wouldn't waste money on NOS. I would get Winged "C"'s and some chinese preamp there pretty hot. Or what ever the flavor of the Month is. Bias around 60 %. EL-34's do not need 70% like 6l6 or Kt 66's. And check the speakers to make sure there good. If your running 6550's...

    Wiring Pic 1960TV Cab

Does anyone or could anyone take a Pic of a stock Marshall 1960 TV cab of the speaker wiring and post it???? My previous post I just picked up a cab and I think the wiring is wrong. Hopefully take a good close up of the wiring so I can see how it comes from the factory. I found a good wiring...

    1960TV CAB Wiring

I just picked up a Marshall 1960TV cab. 2003 model with English Celestion Greenbacks. Grille is in Excellent shape and the speakers too. The tolex has a few tears but for the half price.......I can live with it. Also can fix with wood glue and blue painters tape. Did that to my 72' 50watt Metal...

Marshall JMP 50W '67 and '71 - How original? (Pics + sound clips)

The older the marshall the cleaner it sounds until it's wide open. The output tranny's had different impedence. If you can get Ken Fisher's Trainwreck pages he explain's it in great detail. That's why the old Plexi's you had to crank to get breakup. When I grew up in my brothers band the guitar...

Marshall JMP 50W '67 and '71 - How original? (Pics + sound clips)

Nice tones, love both. Like the 67 breakup also. I own a 71 and 72 50 watt metal panels. The 71 is stock except for the snubber caps, blew one. 72 has F&T's for filters and new snubbers, came without. These are both 1987 amps and came without the .68 on V2. Bought some original Mustards and...

72' 50 watt tremolo head...laydown or standup transformer.

Usually the laydown tranny's have a higher plate voltage. On my 50 watter's that's the case on my metal panel plexi's PTP.

To restore or not to restore ?

I do not know how tore up your tolex is but on my 50 watt 72' Metal Panel was used also. The trick is to use wood glue and blue painter's tape. I glued down the torn tolex, used a tooth pick to use just the right amount as not to have to clean up much. Then put the blue painter's tape on it for...

    Sabbath "Master of Reality" Sound

Also if I remember reading he used bass pickups in the beginning on his SG. I would have to get some old pics....but if you do get pics of the first couple albums check out the pickups. They're not humbuckers if I remember correctly. Also saw the New Heaven & Hell tour video and he use's his old...

    What's the most closed..

If he drilled holes without asking you first into a vintage amp I would be PISSED!!!! I would think the work should have been free and then some!!!!!:hmm: I would definitely have a very close encounter of the ugly kind with someone like that. But we learn the hard way. I only take my vintage...

    71' Marshall Bias Problem

Fixed the amp today!!! Installed new 25k linear bias pot and a set of NOS Mullard's and biased at 65% with 432 on the plates. The bias pot was shot, that's all I had to change. It biased right in the middle of the sweep of the pot! No resistor's to alter! Also hooked up the bias to the hot...

    71' Marshall Bias Problem

If you look on the LP forum in amps I have a whole set of Pic's. All original amp, Thanks!!

    71' Marshall Bias Problem

The pot came loose inside messing with the bias, way to cold. The best I could get with my second set of Mullard's was 25mA at 417Vdc!!!! Way to cold. Now the pot is bad messing with it. All stock amp. I ordered all new parts from Metro this morning. Bias pot,33k resistor to change out the 47k...

    71' Marshall Bias Problem

My bias pot is bad in my new 71 marshall!!!! Where can I find one!!!!!The bias is way to low also. Do I increase or decrease to increase the mA. It was at 25mA max. I need at least 35 to 40mA. Thanks!!!

    Sabbath "Master of Reality" Sound

I saw BlackSabbath in San Francisco at the Winterland for all their albums. Tony uses 3 Laney SuperGroup Stacks and a 64' I believe SG with the pickups altered and the bridge. That's the old red one he will play nowadays. He has a custom black one. I do not know how he does it either but listen...

    Value of 1972 50watt metalface.

Wow, thanks for all the info guys. I have struggled to find another to compare it with. Value is really only of interest for insurance purposes. I need to find someone to give it a sympathetic service as the tone is changing very slightly. Hard to explain how, maybe a little fizzier in the top...

    Value of 1972 50watt metalface.

Very nice shape!!!!! Both amps will sound very similar. The 71' with the laydown tranny will have higher plate voltage which should give more headroom and punch. But time will tell.......all Marshall's have their own tone. Plus a Great Les Paul and Speakers will help. Rock On!!!

    Value of 1972 50watt metalface.

s Mullard's are the tubes for that amp for it to sound original. I use the middle sixty's Mullard Xf2's w/ double getters. They will last forever if bias correctly.

    Value of 1972 50watt metalface.

Watch ebay for the market price. That's worth 2000.00 plus easy. If the rest of it is as clean as the inside. Try and find another one!!!! All you need to do to make it a lead head is put a .68 NOS mustard cap on V2 cathode resister. If that is a PA head it may be V3 cathode would have to look...
