Like others have said, no cracks. Just remember to clean residue off the fretboard whenever you change strings and oil it (don't soak it, just rub it down) 1-3 times per year depending on your local weather. Fret Doctor seems to be a popular option around most of the forums.
Hearing damage? Have you ever read the manual for an old Marshall? Small children and animals can be bludgeoned to death by the crushing volume when the master cracks 6.
That sounds great, Dan. Not too often you get to hear clips of a modded Marshall with singles on the clean channel, but it definitely demonstrates another benefit of the Friedman. Bonus points for the ultra-rare-for-the-forum's Frampton riff at the end. :dude:
I've owned my JMP for about three years and I've been able to crank it one time. One time in three years. So much fun playing through an amp that loud. Just a shame it made my terrible playing that much louder.
On several occasions with guitars, amps, cabinets, effects, etc. I've been disappointed a few times when a piece of gear didn't live up to its hype, but for the most part, it has worked well. Try it if you can, if not, arm yourself with knowledge (read reviews, ask around on forums, listen to...
This is what I used as well. I believe it was $75 shipped (plus tax for me in AZ) for all the capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply, which was lower than I could get them for from my tech.
While it seems to be taboo on a lot of the forums to modify an old Marshall, I say do whatever floats your boat, especially if it will make an amp you already like that much better. If you are happy, that's all that really matters.
How are you liking it after the new caps, by the way? I'm not...
A 2203 can be a JMP or JCM 800. 2203 signifies that the amp is a 100 watt master volume model and 2204 that it is a 50 watt master volume. There are also the 1959 and 1987 versions which are non-master volume (NMV) amps and have the four inputs on the front. The master volume models provide...
That's why I wasn't sure if fuzzy was the right word. I don't really know how to describe it, I think it is just something with the Orange tone that my ears do not gel with, like it has some give to it or something. It was my friend's setup with the TT and an Avatar 1x12 with a G12H30.
My only problem with the Tiny Terror is that inherent, for lack of a better word, fuzziness it has to the overdrive. It seems like it is something that you either really like, or just do not get along with at all. It is definitely worth trying, though, because it seems like the people that...
I've always liked the XXL myself. Years ago, my friend had one as a backup amp for his 5150. I definitely prefer a tube amp, but the XXL could get loud enough for practices and would work perfectly in a pinch.
I would say the Bray mod followed closely by the 2203 with the Hot Mod. I've liked the clips I have heard of Bray's modifications and you can't go wrong with the 2203 with a Soldano Hot Mod because you can always take it out and have a good old fashioned Marshall.
I have heard excellent things about the Tweaker. It also seems like the Blackstar HT-5 is a popular option; however, I am not sure about how well it performs clean.
