Hello folks,

I just picked up a clean empty 1960bhw cabinet. I've always loved the look of those cabs.
As it's empty, I get to choose what speakers I put in. I will mainly use it with my 1987 head. I play in a classic rock coverband, Les Pauls mostly.
I have a pair of vintage 55hz Blackbacks I could put in it, maybe pair those with a different kind speaker.
Which combination would you recommend for that amp?
Thanks!

If you've got old blackbacks that's a great start. Avatar has the Hellatone 25W ceramic speaker for a great price here in the U.S. It's voiced similar to a Greenback. I have some of them and I really dig the sound.

Scumback is also a great choice if you want something to match those blackbacks.

My stock 71 1987, 70 Superbass and 79 2203 all like my quads of Pulsonic 25 watt Greenbacks way more than my 1281 Blackbacks, though the Blackbacks beat out all the rest(reissue Greenbacks, V30’s, Heritage and original 12-65’s, Ann H30’s)
If you’ve got a 69 1987 and want the late 60’s/early 70’s sound from it then there’s only one choice.

Save up for another pair of Blackbacks, or possibly the 55hz reissues...T1281's all the way!

The T1511s (55Hz) go really well with a pair of T1221s (75Hz) in a cross pattern.
I've got two of these (a 68 B and an early 69A) with this combination and each pair makes up for the deficits of the other
I highly recommend.
I would put any H speakers in there as it will almost certainly be imbalanced with your existing Ms unless you use a quad (T1217 x2 and T1281 x2) which is an equally sweet sounding match.
:2c:.

I have always liked the blend of a Celestion A-type with a Med magnet Creamback. Especially in a closed-back cabinet.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try 2x G12H30 (1281's) + a pair of reissue G12M25 75hz made in UK Greenbacks (all 16 ohms). See how that turns out!

Make sure it's a speaker with similar sensitivity
