As most of you know I bought a DSL50 a while back on Ebay but was waiting for my the cab I ordered. Having said that, the 1936 cab arrived today and I just got done testing out the rig. As I said before, I played a Mesa Single Rectifer (w 2x12/Vintage 30s) for 8 years and ended up selling it a year and a half ago due to financial issues. When I owned the Mesa the clean channel was always a disappointment to me as it was very harsh, bright, and just an in your face horrible clean. After playing a DSL at Guitar Center a few years ago I was impressed with the clean and thought the distortion was rather usable as well. This led me to my recent purchase of the DSL.

After testing out the DSL the clean is amazingly smooth and full of character just as I recalled. I really like the reverb on the DSL as it seems to makes the amp really come alive IMO. I remember my Mesa's reverb was practically nonexistent and didn't seem to add much to the sound (Always wondered why they even bothered). lol

As for the DSLs distortion, it sounds great, but is different then what I'm used to. I find it lacking the lowend and depth that the Mesa had. The DSLs really are all around great amps though. :)

I too have both of the big "M"s. Maybe it is how I have my Mesa/Boogie set up but I find that I can get the Marshall to do that low end growl by using the deep switch and either lead 1 or lead 2. (sorry, I rarely use the setting so I will have to go try it again)

Glad that you are finding the love in the Marshall. They are amazing beasts.

I just got done playing again and hear static once in a while when picking on the clean channel. Any ideas?

I had this problem half a year ago and after much talking on the forum and several trials to find the reason, it was as simple as it was one of my main tubes. :hmm:
I was really puzzled to find out that a faulty tube could produce that kind of occasional static, I always expected a faulty tube to produce much more spectacular mishaps. Try a spare one to identify the faulty one.

I kinda figured that might be it. Thanks for the input. :) I'm not confortable messing with the amp myself so I'll just look into taking it to a tech. If a tube is indeed bad I think I'm just gonna have it retubed. I bought the thing used and it is a 2005 so for all I know they are the orginals. The guy I bought it from on Ebay said in the 2 years he had it it never had a tube change. Before that his buddy had it since 2005 when it was bought new I believe. Rather than making numerous trips to the tech replaceing individual tubes I'd rather retube the whole thing so I know I'm good for a while. What do yall think?

I'm no specialist in tubes, but there are a lot on this forum.
But I'm quite sure that the problem is tuberelated, though I'm not to 100% sure..:hmm:
But if the tubes are already at least 2 years old... I had to change mine after 1 1/2 year.
Anyway, it is always good to have a spare set of main tubes available, the DSL 50 only needs two, no big deal then.
I would try changing the main tubes before taking the amp to the tech. If it's really the tubes, then you pay for the tubes and the tech .
