I've got two 1960b's with 75's and I'm not a fan of either of them. I've always disliked the 75's, I find them to be too harsh. I also find the V30s too harsh in these cabs. My question is can anyone suggest another model of Celestion speaker for these ? I want to smooth out the mids and shave off some of the highs. I want to keep the Celestion tone but dial it back some.

I've got some Eminence Legend loaded cabs and they sound fantastic but they're missing that Celestion midrange and bite. I'm looking for the best of both worlds in one cab.

I play mostly Sabbath to Suffocation so medium to high gain is where I'm at.

Thank you fine distinguished gentleman in advance. I'm looking forward to your suggestions.

Greenbacks, creambacks, blackbacks, after awhile it all becomes one big Sir-mix-alot video.

Which Marshall amp are you using? I have four full stacks I play thru and three of them have the 75's but one has Celestion V30's in the 1960A and the 1960B has Marshall Vintage G12 Black Back. No matter which head I put on that stack they sound amazing. I get a great "Wasp Behind the Wall of Sleep" tone using my '77 JMP 2203 or my main head, the '87 2555 on that stack. I have to dial out the the harshness with a MXR 10 band EQ in the other stacks. I have fought with the 75's enough that I am now looking to pick up the Vintage 30s and the Marshall Vintage G12's so I can get rid of the 75's.

If I were to take the effort and expense to replace stock speakers, I'd go with Celestion Cream (not Creamback), or one of their other AlNiCo models dependent upon your power requirements.

Other good, ceramic options (again dependent upon power requirements):

Celestion G12M Greenback
Marshall G12 Heritage
Marshall G12 Vintage (not to be confused with Celestion Vintage 30)

I actually really like Celestion's (relatively) new V-type speakers. They don't have as much bite as v30s or 75s; but they still have a decent amount of top end sparkle. They're not as nasally as the v30 either. Plus, they're cheaper than a creamback or greenback.

I would definitely recommend watching a few demos on YouTube.

The other thing to try would be mixing and matching speaker combos. I saw a video where it sounds like the Celestiom V-type and A-type go really good together in a mix:

does anyone have an idea or experience of what this could be? ok, the sticker is g12t75, but the black body and 6 arms, and as far as i know g12t75 are silver with 4 arms. they have nothing engraved or marked anywhere. they told me that they were in the MG box at the factory and that they were bought that way

G12-65 Heritage are really smooth speakers, G12-m greenback are also more mellow than G12T-75.. next up is the V30 which you already tried. I really like v30s in a 4x12.. it mellow them out a bit, but still have enough bite.. G12T-75 and Classic lead 80 have the most sizzle and harshness..

As a economic alternative I can recommend Eminence Legend GB128. Bit like the G12-m greenback, slighty more sizzle and bass.

Greenbacks are my favorite speaker with a Marshall. However, based on what you described you’re looking for, I think the Celestion Lynchback may be a great choice for you.

I would go with creambacks, I like greenbacks too but the creambacks have more watts and can be used with any size amp big or small. :yesway:

Vintage G12-65's might fit your bill...I've never tried the Heritage models so I can't recommend those but they could be a good sub.

This really is a personal taste thing. I’m running an Origin20h into two 1x12 cabs. One with a 25w Greenback and a V-Type in the other. These speakers are a couple years old, so not vintage made in England units. When I a/bed them a year or so ago I preferred the V-Type - smoother and I simply liked it’s sound better. Some folks seem to dislike them a great deal though. I recently purchased a second V-Type for a 2x12 cab project this summer. Good luck.
