Or are surrounded by other musicians
nearby?

Do you interact with those people?

I live in a musically crowded spot. Not
in some so called artsy musicians place
like Greenwich Village or some such,
i mean property to property.

In my direct neighbouring houses resides
one classical pianist, sometimes he breaks
out the old electric organ and rips on some
halloween type music, with matching red
lights in the house and over his yard...they
might do vampire orgies?

Weird thing, i never heard him practice, if
the piano starts at evenings the whole
composition is played front to end, to my
amateur ears perfectly.

The next house a flute player, practicing 2 to
3 hours a day. Him i can see directly playing
through the windows:p, and could read his
sheetmusic with binoculars.. he could see me
take a dump if he wanted to:p

This guy is totally different to the piano
guy, i hear him repeatedly play the same
lines over and over, he practices.

The next one is a drummer, drum teacher,
i can see them play, but i dont hear a damn
thing...fuckn e-drums.

At my loud practice space the new neighbour
sings and plays acoustic with people once a week.

Im just the slightly too loud guitarist:p

Do you have musical neighbours?

My next door neighbor has a baby grand in her front room.

I helped her husband carry in a curio cabinet. I saw the beautiful piano.

I played the first 5 chords of Takin' It To The Streets.

It's been awhile since it's been tuned.

Nope. I think musicians dried up in the local sense in US. More a thing
of the past it seems. I guess the big cities may be different but I
don't think anyone's giving a $hit.

In the day there used to be jam rag magazines with all the bands. I can't
imagine what would be in there now. Probably isn't such a thing now.

I think it depends on where you are.

I grew up around Seattle in the 80s and 90s. The scene there has changed, but it still exists.

Later i lived around Dallas. Again, it has changed, but the scene still exists.

I'm now in Central France. Dunno what the scene here was back in the 80s and 90s, but right now, I would have to fight for spots in clubs that feature original bands. After over a year with no shows, there are a million bands around here, and precious few timeslots to book.

Wow. I do have to say I find that interesting since there is no commercial market for
them for them to aspire to part of anymore. Maybe they just like doing it. :yesway:

I gotta be honest, unless one plays in a cover band, there has never been a commercial market - until one is discovered, signed, and made a star.

Neighbours?
Some members here - I'm looking at you Tatz - do not put their location under their avatar.
This makes me confused and furious.

Meanwhile...
I heard a few months back that Victor Briggs from The Animals lives near me.
My son-in-law ran into him.

I imagined I might meet him eventually - just by getting around in the neighbourhood.
But then I learn tonight - from Wikipedia - that he's dead now.
__

My daughter's close friend knows a guy who is friendly with Robert Fripp.

This will probably never affect me.
___

My wife's cousin is a child prodigy drummer.
We don't really see him at all any more.
It's a bit sad.
___

Meanwhile a nearby dairy farming woman is a keen drummer. Maybe we will get together some time.

Currently living in a van down by the river.
I live in Southern California, where everybody's a star...

musician
actor
singer
dancer
photographer
producer

you name it, they are it...

even if they're not
There must also be a lot of "almosts" and "I just passed by [insert famous name here] on the way to the bathroom" stories there, I'd imagine.

Lots of musicians in the small city where I live and I have jammed with many of them. It seems to me that in places that are more isolated than big city areas, older folks made their own music to pass the time and the kids (my age which is pushing 60) picked up and carried on the tradition. In a town I lived in Newfoundland if you didn't sing, dance or play some kind of instrument you probably weren't born there. :):)

I used to have a kid next door who'd play the bagpipes.. very very loud but it was nice. His mom still lives there but he moved out and became a doctor. No other musicians on my block that I can hear.

I am about 20 minutes from DOD
There are 3 guitar players on my block, I am one of them, 2 drummers, and my grandson plays, and I am sure there are many more to my local, but I don’t know any of them. And the ones I do know. Have no time to just jam..
So I am just a garage hack..
Cheers

I believe I'm the hottest (only ;)) guitar player in my tiny hood (36 homes). The next door neighbor does have three small children though, all taking piano lessons and I can hear them running over their scales almost daily lol, I'll give them a couple more years to learn but then they can expect some head cutting duels.

I live in rural Iowa. I know a lot of musicians in about a 2 1/2 hour radius. But no, in my particular area/town there are not a lot of musicians. It makes it hard to put a good band together without people having to drive too far to practice.
