Never owned a marshall head before and want to know if I can plug a dsl1hr into the speakers of my 2x12 jcm900 combo. Amp output is 16ohm, what plugs in where?

Many thanks,

Rob

You would first unplug the speakers from the combo, take a speaker cable and a female adapter, from your head then plug into the cabs speaker cable, be sure to match ohms, and there you go.

Which JCM900 combo?

If it has two 8 ohm speakers in series plugged into the amp's 16 ohm jack, yes just unplug the speakers from the JCM900 and plug them into the DSL1. (If you put the DSL back to back behind the 900 instead of on top of it, the 900's speaker harness may reach without needing another cable.)

If it has two 16 ohm speakers in parallel plugged into the 8 ohm jack, you'll have to disconnect one speaker and only run the DSL1 through a single speaker.

Hi all just to confirm, the dsl1 head has a single 16ohm output, jcm 900 is a 4102 model with 8 or 4(16) impedance selector.

Ok, if the speakers in the 4102 are stock they're 16 ohms each, connected in parallel for 8 ohms total, and you should have the switch set to 8 ohms.

The JCM900 combos and the heads used the same back panel, hence the 8/4(16) label. The heads could use 8 or 16 ohm speaker loads, the combos could use 8 or 4 ohm speaker loads.

You can only connect the DSL1 to one of the combo speakers, with the other speaker disconnected.

To use one combo speaker with the DSL1 while still being able to quickly and easily use both of them with the 4102:

Get a plug and some wire. Remove the jumper wires between the speakers in the 4102. Connect the new wires and plug to the disconnected speaker (speaker "+" to the plug tip, speaker "-" to the plug sleeve).

When you want to use the 4102, stick the speaker plugs into the 4102's two output jacks and leave the switch set to 8 ohms.

When you want to use the DSL1, unplug one speaker from the 4102 and plug it into the DSL1.

If you use long wires for the new plug, you can set the DSL1 on top of the 4102. When using the 4102, just tuck the long wires in the back of the 4102 cab.

Just make sure you don’t run either amp without a load. If your switching things around a lot it might be easy to forget which amp is connected to the speaker cab, and if you turn the wrong one on...
