Hi, thought I'd best introduce myself & mention gear I'm using. My (prized possession) Marshall is a recently acquired (possibly late '67, or) '68 model 1987 JMP50, serial No.1122516111859701404709200760034480149.jpg
Gutshots are proving to be too large to upload, I'll need to take lower resolution pics to show.
Reasonably un-molested for its age, red lacquer still on about 90% of the solder joins & aside from filters that I've changed (& properly conditioned by current limiting), all components are original. It has been modified by fitting a loop at some stage (back panel drilled), but put back to stock before I got it16111860133566074064487654064046.png
Came fitted with Mullard ribbed plate CV4004 pre amp valves & Telefunken winged plate EL34 output valves, though I've since fitted a NOS matching date code (B2J3; Blackburn plant, 1962, October, 3rd week of) duet of (Valvo branded) Mullard double halo getters xf2 EL34's (biased to 60%) & changed out V1 for a NOS (1966 Blackburn coded) IEC Mullard 7025. I'm running the amp through a greenback loaded 1960AV cab while searching for a period correct basketweave cab.
Guitars in order of preference are a plaintop Heritage 80 Standard Les Paul,WP_20180705_014.jpg
(apologies for the light reflection below the stopbar), a 2012 Les Paul TraditionalWP_20160413_009.jpg
A 2020 SG Standard '61IMG_20200415_104725.jpg
A 2012 stratocaster selectWP_20160722_007.jpg
A 2017 Jackson Pro Soloist (no pic ATM), a 2012 '60s tribute SG (no pic ATM) & a 2019 (5 string, open G tuned) Telecaster (again, no pic ATM). The files are too large for these 3 pics to upload. Cheers

Thanks for the welcome guys. I forgot to mention earlier that when replacing the JMP's filter caps I also replaced the bias supply electrolytic caps.
HHmmmm 4 Guitars and only 1 Marshall?........Don't worry we will help you

Haha, I do have other amps, all "clones" that I've built. The Marshall clones have been built using as many period correct NOS electronic components as possible.
The first built is a '68 spec JMP50, built with Marstran iron using Iskra resistors (Piher 68k's) & Philips Mullard C296 mustard capacitors (RBS silver mica's). Fitted with NOS Blackburn Mullard 163 12AX7's (Brimar CV4004 box plate in V2) & a NOS duet of GE branded Blackburn Mullard single halo getter xf2 EL34's.
The second built is a "black flag" JTM50, Marstran PT, Merren OT, Piher resistors. Philips Mullard C296 mustard & RS silver mica capacitors. All valves are NOS Blackburn Mullard. V1 is a NIB 1962 shield logo (white) 161 series 7025, V2 & V3 are 163 series 12AX7's. Power valves are a NIB matching date code duet of Philips Miniwatt branded single halo getter xf2 EL34's. Rectifier is a Valvo branded, 7 notch plates f32 GZ34.
The third build is a 1969 JMP100 Superlead, Merren iron, Iskra & Piher resistors, Philips Mullard C296 & RS "dogbone" capacitors (thankyou very much @neikeel for helping out with the dogbone capacitors). Valves are NOS Blackburn Mullard, 163 series 12AX7's (V2 is again a Brimar CV4004 box plate), EL34's are Philips branded xf4's.
I also have a 2204/Caswell #39 mod (footswitchable) type amp, Marstran OT, Classic tone PT, built with Aussie made Philips Miniwatt C296 capacitors, NOS Sylvania 7025 in V1, NOS Sylvania 12AX7's for the other pre-amp valves.
I also have a 5F1 Champ clone, carbon comp resistors, Sozo blue molded caps & valved with NOS old glass, RCA grey plate 12AX7, JAN Philips 6V6GT & GE 5Y3.
Also a Robrobinette JCM800 Micro-ish 1 watt amp, Sozo Next Gen caps & valved with NOS Sylvania 12AX7's & a 1% matched RCA 12AU7 power valve (10.2mA/10.2mA, GM = 2200/2200.
I'm currently waiting on Merren iron to arrive for two more NOS component/valve JMP50 type builds (already have components & valves for), so I think I'm covered for amps (for now, at least).
Welcome Ivan, nice Marshall, love the 80 LP, mines an 81:welcome:
Mines an '81 too. I found a better pic of it, though it still has a slight reflection showing on itIMG_20210318_174943.jpg

:welcome:
To The Forum
Nice gear Ivan
I believe that we know one another..

Hi Mitch, thanks for the welcome, & thanks to all others who welcomed me too.
Yes, I believe we do know each other from another digital realm.
Welcome to the Forum Ivan !
Does the 67/68 Marshall convince you that 'old is best' ?
Oh yes, it convinces that old is best, no doubt about it. I really never "dime" anything on an amp, though I do like the volume up enough to get it cooking (usually somewhere in the vicinity of 6~8, with the unused normal channel's volume on 4).
Great touch sensitivity, responds really well to picking dynamics. Played cleaner (very light touch), it gets a great "bloom" happening, probably better in this regard than any amp I've played through. Played hard it just roars, punchy, rich, really great harmonic content overdriven, this amp sizzles. I've been enjoying so much that I've not yet even tried any pedals through it.
Yep, old is best. Cheers

Great that you are enjoying that amp, one of my favorites of all time
