What is the style / type of grill cloth?Hi,
Maybe this is a stupid question.
On the grill of my Marshall cabinet there are some humidity stains.
Which is the best way to clean them?
Can I use a wet towel?
Thank you
I don't know how to say which is the material. What is the style / type of grill cloth?
Pics would also be helpful.
Stains probably won't just wipe off with a damp cloth.
Thanks, I meant pics of yours showing the stains.I don't know how to say which is the material.
But this is the model of the cabinet:
Marshall Silver Jubilee 2536A 212
Oh I didn't understand what you meant. Thanks, I meant pics of yours showing the stains.
I'm not sure what grill is used on the SJ cabs.
Most likely a black basketweave or somweave.
Most grill is not actually "cloth" - it's tightly wound paper.
Moisture stains are probably not going to wipe off.
The coloration of the paper strands has been altered by the moisture.
You could pull the baffle, remove the speakers, and try some black stain / dye to even it out.
Might be easier to just replace the grill cloth for about $30.
My main concern would be the source of this moisture.Oh I didn't understand what you meant.
Anyway this is the pic of my cab.
My main concern is if these stains are only an aesthetic issue or if they could damage the speakers.
Thanks for the help.
It's not only something that happened on the cabinet. My main concern would be the source of this moisture.
Was that from some sort of splash, or did it happen over time?
Pic looks more like mold than a moisture stain.
Eliminate the cause before trying to fix the result.
I'd pull that bottom speaker and have a look at the cone - it's made of paper as well.
And have a look around at the cabinet wood on the inside while you got the back off.
Sounds like a bigger issue than cleaning grill cloth. It's not only something that happened on the cabinet.
It happens on this side of the house because of the high humidity (especially on the walls).
can't be good for guitars either...Sounds like a bigger issue than cleaning grill cloth.
It's just going to keep happening unless you can change the environment.
Some sort of de-humidifer?
I'd actually be more concerned with your amp(s).
