How to remove "fingerprints" from an ebony board

Do you mean like wear marks on the areas you often bend strings & such?

As you play your fretboard will develop wear marks that will either wear through the finish or just dig into the wood and catch the light at a different angle than the rest of the board. Either way there's no real fix for it, just part of the wear and tear of playing a guitar. Wear it (pardon the pun) with pride.

First take some rubbing alcohol on a rag and rub wet alcohol dipped rag vigorously on the fretboard in between each and every fret. This will remove the old dirt, dead skin, and built up oils.

2ND-- replace moisture removed from the alcohol with some mineral oil or lemon oil. A drop or two between each fret is enough. Rub it in w/ your finger, and let set for a few minutes. You'll see where the neck drinks up the oil and where the excess sits. Take a clean rag and wipe off the excess, and voila. Put on a new set of strings, and let her rip! :wave::dude:
