I'm obsessed with the tone on this album

I know Greg Martin is a tone monster but I just love his lead tone on this album. I know it's a 58 LP into a nice old plexi but there's something else in there. I'm thinking a rangemaster or something - any better ideas?

Sounds like a silicone fuzz controlled by the volume knob on the burst to me. Regardless it does sound great!

Ah could be. That would explain the smoothness...

Found a big long thread on the LPF where he answers loads of questions. He says he never used nothing but the 58 straight into a 50 or 100 watter -he often pulled 2 tubes from the 100 watt depending on the venue and ran 6550s.
Hmmmm....
