Any thoughts on the Laney LH50, I'm considering a backup amp head and this seems to fit the requirements . Brand new they are going pretty cheap, has anyone actually played through one to see how they compare to a decent Marshall and are they built well ? Thanks

What do you plan on using it for? It's not a high gain beast, probably on par with a JCM800 gain-wise.

That's how I see it to, and that is the amp I would be backing up.I must say it is one of the ugliest things I ever saw compared to a Marshall. The clip you posted is one that got me thinking. 450 for a new one seems like decent deal.

At 31 lbs., 50 watts, fx loop, 4-ecc83, 2- el34's, 2 channels, if it stings like a Marshall I would be all in. but with all that and no Marshall bite, I'm out.

Finances have forced the sale of my Silver Jubilee, I ordered a $449 Laney LH50 as a stop gap until I can get back in the Marshall game. I am very impressed with the LH50 sound clips out there, it seems very JCM800ish. Mine arrives tomorrow and I will be installing NOS preamp tubes, after a little play time I will post a quick review... :shred:

UK-made Laneys are built like friggen tanks, so don't worry about quality.

Well, the ones made since 1995 are, not sure about the '80s ones.

Well here we go.

First off this is NOT a UK made amp, the LH50 is made in China, lame. Secondly the power tubes are not the same, what do you think of that? V5 has a TAD EL34B-STR 1050 while V6 has a TAD EL34B-STR 1032, the 1032 is shorter! I have never had an amp with tubes like this so I am waiting for some feedback before turning it on. What do you guys think?

After installing my NOS preamp tubes I have to say it seems to be well built, time will tell though. Some more pics...

How does it sound compared to your Marshall experience ?
Your pics look better than any I've seen on this amp head.

I noticed that in another pic to, I don't know what to think about those tubes. Hopefully there is a bias adjustment pot that's not to hard to get to. I would think a matched set of EL34'S would work fine.I have heard TAD tubes are good although I have no experience with them.

I don't know how good the Laney will sound compared to the Marshall. I mean the Laney doesn't even have clipping diodes!!

I love a good zombie post
