Just got this bad boy I’m ready for a resto!

Probably paid too much for it bet eh who cares, the price was low enough

This is a July 1969 metal panel 100w Super PA, SN 2179A

It’s clearly had a hard life, briefly played it and from what I can tell it’s been modded to something like a 2203, with a footswitch it engages the other two volumes and adds some type of distortion in it?? The pcb inside has “Ear Elec AB Mod” on it, seems to have a couple c547 transistors, two other u known transistors, and four VTL5C4 optocouplers on it, no clue what this does. Also has a few diodes on it.

The amp has an extra preamp tube and only two of the inputs work, think it’s original iron. Surprisingly a lot of the board further up past the mixing section is relatively intact with replaced caps and mostly original resistors. I think only two pots are replaced.

I plan to return this close to stock, or Atleast do bass spec one side with a few lead style mods on the other set of inputs, but that extra preamp tube is there staring at me wanting to be used!

I’ll start ripping stuff out of it soon so I know what it needs, and start figuring out what the hell is going on in there!

Will be a fun project. There's not a point to keep a PA amp 100% stock, unless is extremely collectible. Turn it into a fire breather with that additional tube :agreed:

Exactly, for of the same channel just gets old. Will have to experiment with lead preamp specs but retaining the bass spec tonestack. I’ve already got a superlead so want to give this more of a bass kinda sound. It will be my first vintage handwired amp resto so will be very interesting!
