Well finally got my Afd100 today. I gotta say it's cool. #34 mode is useless so far but I've only been playing it for 2 hours.

I can take pics if you guys want.

The "slash tone" is definitely there on AFD mode. But, I like my 2203 more.

Congrats on the new amp.

I've read others who say the #34 mode is very pleasing in the mix w/others, but not so much on it's own. Might be one of those things where you'll prefer that mode playing out. I like the clips I've heard of the amp (both modes) ... very nice sounding as far as youtube clips are concerned at least.

Yes, some porn would be nice. Thanks.

Congrats, on the new amp. The funny thing I see when I've read about people who are making claims about number #34 being so bright, is when they post their settings and they have their treble on 7; and their presence on 8; with the bass and mids at 6. Marshalls are a little bright to begin with, but thoses settings don't help these people's situation. I am anxious to check out #34 myself and see what I can come up with. What are your settings like?

Congrats ! I got mine March 17th St Patrick's day in the Ltd. Ed. green tolex .
The tone of the amp is great - lives up to the AFD tone and is a work of art as well to behold - truely a beautiful amp. (Just kidding of course about the green tolex)

The true test is this week..My 2203 modded with the #39 mod by Frank Levi himself.

I believe Frank's was the #36 mod, Caswell did the #39, but definately want to hear some A/B clips.

Gblev: serious junk in the trunk there ! Yeah your statement above is correct. Anyway, Frank's current mod does not involve adding an extra pre-amp tube, but rather changing the amp's whole gain structure. End result is that you get not just #36 or #39, but #34, #36, and #39 and more.
By the way someone told me that Caswell currently does a #39 mod but it is digital. I do not know if that is a true statement or not because I do not personally know the individual who made that comment. However, it is definitely worth looking into if you have him do your mod in order to make an informed decision.
I prefer the Levi mod based on flexibility alone.

I got mine yesterday. I was so excited to get this amp and though I had heard tales of how bright it was and this and that I was so sure AFD mode was going to be the answer to my prayers. I've worked with the amp quite a bit, I've tried everything I can think of. I was running a Mode Four mf-350 through a double stack of mf-280a/b cabs. The AFD is brutle from a tone perspective. It has been VERY difficult for me to get a decent tone. I finally have a somewhat decent sound by using input II and selecting the effects loop maxed, nothing in the loop. I am so disappointed, the treble is just so harsh and I've worked the treble, mids and presence to find some middle ground. I was hoping to have this creamy smooth tone with my Les Paul but it has been anything but. I am wondering if some other speaker configuration would be better suited to this amp. My double stack mf-280 cabs have the custom vintage 30s and my ears are ringing and I'm just very disappointed. 34 is not even an option at a decent volume. I guess this thing might sound awesome in a huge room where you are able to let her rip but that's not why I bought the amp with the AFD attenuation. The only thing I can think is that there is something wrong with the power outlet I have it plugged into or there is an issue with the amp, which I really doubt. Of course I'll continue to try different outlets and configurations but I just don't know what to think at this point. Not sure what to make of this...I feel I must be doing something wrong because this is a Marshall for gods sake but what a brutal attack on the ears, I thought the solid state mf-350 could be harsh but I was able easily get decent tones. Obviously others are not having an issue with the amp but obviously I am...

Jupiter, the girl in the pic has a nice big plump and juicy heart shaped buttock, which I am a self delegated connoisser and a fan club member of the lower female appendages. I can't help but peek over at it while I'm reading posts, if you know what I mean.

Sonny you have got a great set up there, I would like to hear what that Slash goldtop sounds like on #34, as it has a treble bleed circuit wiring. I too have the Slash goldtop and can't wait to hear it on the #34 mode (still waiting). It is my understanding that after the St. Louis riots, Slash was using #34 as the dirty amp for the rest of his GN'R tours, which includes the Tokyo shows, and I loved the tone he got with that goldtop he had. I get that tone with the Haze40, but it just doesn't quite have the punch that Slash had. Anyway, you got a great set up there, one to be admired.

Thanks gblev. But, thats not a Slash Goldtop necessarily. Its Custom Shop Guitar Center 1960 RI. I did recently install the Slash Alnico II pickups. The guitar had the push pull knobs that were taken out for vintage style wiring. The tobacco burst is a Slash LP.

A '1982 2203', is an awesome amp! Congrats on the AFD100, I'm waiting for the call either this week or next week to pick up mine.

34 was a bit difficult to deal with at the beginning, but now i have found my settings:

Power: 6
Presence: 4
Bass: 7
Middle: 5
Treble: 4
Master: 4
Preamp: 7
