hey guys.

my SG is making a sound like when you plug in a chord to an amp
but no guitar. this happens with the bridge and the neck pickups alone.
when i switch to both pickups the noise stops.

any suggestions

Sounds like you have a ground issue in the guitar, open it up and check all the connections, maybe a wire off or loose?

Re: noisy hum/buzz from SG

thanks shredless

i'll open it up and check it out. i'm out of town and don't have
my multi-tester, or my other guitar to compare it to.

[edit] turns out my friend had a guitar for me to try.
same thing. noisy with a single pickup and quiter with two.
moving the guitar seemed to change the noise.
maybe it's a bad ground in the amp?

When you get back, bring it over and we'll take a look and see what we see. Shouldnt be to hard to sort out, there isnt much in that amp to go wrong ;)

If you find out what the cause is, let me know. I've the same issue with my 1981 jcm800 50 watt. The buzz is there when the volume is turned up with or without anything plugged into the amp.
