Hey guys so my Marshall Origin 20H and 2x12 Cab has been taken apart, stripped and sanded. I bought these a week ago and the wife came into the home studio room and knocked over the Mic and Isolation Panel onto my amp and grill cloth.. Caused a few tears in the Tolex and a hole in the grill cloth.. speakers are un harmed though. A local shop NextGenGuitars (won't link cuz this is not an Ad for them, if your in Canada and need stuff you can look them up yourself or buy from somewhere else) helped me get some black cane style grill cloth, Red Snake Skin Tolex (Like the custom SV20H Snakeskin for 2020) and Leather Handle. I also ordered a Marshall Block Logo for the cabinet (maybe it will look good, maybe not we'll see) and I ordered a custom engraved name plate for the bottom corner of the cab (where other cabs say 1960 Classic or JCM900 Lead and used photoshop to make it look like the '1960 Classic" badge with the 2 lines but instead it says my name "QLYDE" and "Origin" for model of the amp. I will continue this thread will all my updates as the project goes along, but I would love to see any custom jobs you guys have done, or any style of mods to your Marshalls! Quarantine Project!

Thanks in advance!

Okay my first day of re tolex-ing the Head. I also spent the morning taking apart the cab, sanding, reinforcing the corners with wood glue, taking all the staples out meticulously (to save the gold tinsel piping) here are the photos.

I will add more tomorrow once I get the amp together and start working on the cabinet!

Purple Snakeskin Tolex according to recent preliminary tests seems to improve the sustain.

Looks great Bud. Welcome to the forum. I've done a few tolex jobs in my time and the first ones always the hardest. Keep up the good work and remember we live for pics, aka amp porn.

Will keep it updated each day until it’s done! Definitely not a easy task but I’m taking it in stride and happy that black permanent marker easily disguises and imperfections in the corners! It’s a plexi style head so no corner covers and my first ever tolex job.. Good thing I didn’t chose white, that was my first option but I went with the snakeskin instead after seeing the snakeskin SV20H

That’s rock n roll :dude: It’s definitely a fun project during quarantine! You should give it some new skin

That snake skin skin looks real good . What I’m thinking of is covering the box with panels covered with fake leather and edged off with wood corners . On the top and sides .

Okay good progress today and then big issue. I bought 3M adhesive remover safe for vinyl and it took the black right out of the snake skin, I now have to strip the head and start over.. pretty shit

in other news I figured out how to get the plexi style corners right, check out the first 2 pics for reference. This is a trace out from the tolex I took off the head and how they cut it at the Marshall factory.

My motto here is “Make it Better”

there’s no way in hell I would have stripped it for the little mistakes, now that this happened I get a second chance to improve, or maybe it’s just a bunch of bs I’m telling myself now that the first attempted is fucked

Recorded with cell phone...basic riffage just for tone samples.
The amp now has more depth and bottom end with the 2uf cathode capacitors.
I believe this is the last iteration of this amp.

Track starts at bedroom level...easy to talk over....then gets a little more fun.

Update: Head is completed. And that adhesive remover that fucked up my first attempt was a blessing in disguise because I got every corner perfect. If anyone needs any info on how I got the front corners on the plexi style head right, ask below and I’ll answer but I won’t go into detail if no one really cares at this point.

here’s the pics :photos:
