    Oh I see, are the high plate voltages a factor to consider in their failure ? Mine have about 440 on the plates.

    At the bias test points on the back of my amp, on v4, when cranked I see an average of 170mA draw, a big chord would be something like 205mA, and on v5 the averages are much lower. Is that reasonable?

    I don't use OD pedals so I think the tubes are fine in that regard. I have a pretty chill bias at about 50%.

    What magnets do you prefer?

    Alnico 2 for rock and light metal in my book, has that smoother distortion characteristic compared to A5 and cleans up better with guitar volume. My absolute favourite pickup with an A2 is the Duncan 78' custom shop. give it a try !

    Update: Just received and installed the new 50+50 caps, the amp sound much more punchy and tight. I would call this a success! Much more kerrang which I dig.

    I presume most string makers will receive the same steel right ? If so wouldn’t all brands be facing similar issues ? I hope this doesn’t become like the tube industry where NOS strings are better than new strings :(

    I buy my elixirs from a local authorized retailer here. They don’t rust for me and hold tune well. It’s just that they keep breaking. I feel like it may have been a flaw for that batch during manufacturing.
