1936s cost $550.00 USD New. Before I bought mine I searched ebay but after shipping charges you might as well buy new. Local Craigslist may be worth a shot though. You may even have better luck on Ebay than I did. :)
For a DSL100 I'd say your looking at about $200-$220 including labor. I just had my DSL50 retubed with JJs for $165. As you probably know your DSL100 takes two more power tubes than my DSL50. Having said that, your gonna end up spending 30ish for the two extra power tubes and some additional...
Your DSL trouble was due to it needing a retube..... Are you really going to hold regular tube amp maintenance against your DSL? :lol:Buy yourself a solid state amp if are unwilling to accept the responsibilities of owning a tube amp. It would be like me buying a car and not providing gas for...
I assume the amp plays fine since the retube? I ask because you haven't said a single word regarding the amps tonal performance since it got it retubed and now you are complaining about a popping sound you get when using the standby switch. Just send that big pile of crap to me and be done with...
I would guess that the amp is probably due for a retube. Get ahold of a local amp tech and tell them whats going on. The tubes would be the best place to start. I just bought a used DSL50 which is currently in the shop for a retube. It is a 2005 model and still had its factory Marshall tubes in it.
I took my 2005 DSL50 in today for a retube. I found out that the tubes that were in there were the original Marshalls that came with the amp.... lol I'm actually amazed it played as well as it did on that old of tubes (I had a bit of static and light cutting in and out on clean channel). Other...
Did they retube it or what? If not, I'd tell to send it back retubed or you will raise hell. An amp that keeps making it's way back to the repair shop isn't "fine". From your past experiences with these techs their definition of "fine" means "we are sending it back to you eventhough it's still...
+1. I used to have a Single Rect and found the clean to be really harsh and not very useable. Needless to say it wasn't the least bit enjoyable to use. I recently bought a DSL50 and am very happy with it so far. The DSL is an all around great amp with a nice smooth clean and the classic Marshall...
I kinda figured that might be it. Thanks for the input. :) I'm not confortable messing with the amp myself so I'll just look into taking it to a tech. If a tube is indeed bad I think I'm just gonna have it retubed. I bought the thing used and it is a 2005 so for all I know they are the orginals...
As most of you know I bought a DSL50 a while back on Ebay but was waiting for my the cab I ordered. Having said that, the 1936 cab arrived today and I just got done testing out the rig. As I said before, I played a Mesa Single Rectifer (w 2x12/Vintage 30s) for 8 years and ended up selling it a...
+1. Tonyd you are making your situation harder than it needs to be. :wtf: HAVE THE TUBES REPLACED (NO QUESTIONS ASKED). If they offered you a retube free of charge there is no reason not to take advantage of it. With that being said... >>>> REPLACE THE OLD TUBES AND THERE WILL BE NO QUESTION...
The original DSL50 and DSL100s were discontinued in 2008ish I believe. I think they have a 2nd gen DSL100 out called the DSL100MLB? Theres no longer a 50 watter being made though. I'd suggest looking on Ebay for a used DSL50 as I recently bought my 2005 model on there.
