Maybe a stupid question, but I am curious, why doesn't the C5 have a ground/polarity switch. All the amps I have owned, mostly Fenders, have had one.
Regards.
I am thinking maybe it's the Fulltone Plimsoul I run into it. Since there isn't a lot of headroom in the amp to begin with, wonder if maybe the Plimsoul is too much. I know the PS can be fairly noisy at higher gain settings, so maybe between it and the amp it isn't a happy 'marriage' afterall.
Yes, sir, it has the 1 watt option. Wonder if maybe it's a pedal issue. Will try it without any pedals, and then add pedals, one by one, and see what happens. Thanks for the advice and prayer.
Nope. Same 3 prong grounded ac outlet. I never noticed this when I first got the amp in Oct last year. But since around March, it seems to have some kind of weird ringing sound at times (on certain notes) along with the hiss/fizz.
So was playing the amp yesterday with some new JJ's I installed. Noticed it still has some kind of very audible hiss or fizz on certain notes, before and after the tube change. Anyone have an idea what causes this issue? I have the 3 piece back newer version by the way.
The stock JJ (says Marshall in red, JJ on a black sticker) that came with my C5 went bad after only about 15 hrs or so of use. It developed a rattle/vibration that went away when the tube was replaced by a GT EL84 I had available to verify the issue. So is there any difference between stock C5...
I have the newer 3 piece back model C5. Wonder what the consensus is on removing the metal tube retainer with the rubber grommets in it. Any harm or benefit in taking it off and letting those tubes hang loose? Also, any thought on leaving that black grill off too?
Happy Monday, one and all. Any suggestions on replacing the tube dampers/retainers on the Class 5? Brands like Belton, EuroDampers or whatever is out there. Looking to upgrade the stock one.
Regards.
Main one is a '74 Les Paul, mahogany body and maple top. Full-size T-top HB's pickups wound to PAF specs. Strat is made in Japan and no idea of the wood they used, pickups are not that great, just stock but may upgrade them to some kind of Dimarzios or Fender Fat 50's at some point.
Great info, Alex. Looking for more of the EJ 'violin' sustain sound (thinking about pairing up the fuzz with a Giggity, too), but also like the early Led Zep/Page tones. So is there is there anything that covers both? Use a Les Paul with PAF pickups and Japanese Strat from 1986. Sounds like...
Think the MXR Classic Fuzz M108 is the same thing as the JHFF circuit wise, just a smaller footprint, and it has LED on/off indicator and a buffer too. But I could be wrong.
Want to get one for the Class 5. Any recommendations, and do fuzz pedals work well with the C5? Been looking at MXR Classic Fuzz M108 or maybe Fulltone Soulbender. Open to suggestions.
Regards.
