I've been upgrading both of my TSL 100's this week. Got the '99 upgraded with some new caps and resistors in various places, and installed a ClassicTone 3h choke. Got it all back together, biased, and am really in love it, more than before.
Was trying to finish up the '07 this morning...
The problem appears to be something totally different. I took both heads to a band audition recently. Was playing the '07 first. Then I switched to the '99. Got about 10 minutes of playing again, it faded out, again! Wiggled V1 again and it was brought back to life again.
A question for the...
Since the band jam was cancelled today, I decided to to do some testing and troubleshooting. I took the metal guard off the back of both TSL's. I first checked the bias on the '99. It was pretty steady around 85mv. Then I checked the '07, it was on 60mv! WTF! Who would set a bias that low...
I hope so RickyLee. If it is the tubes, it'll have to wait. Need some make some extra dough. But it gives me time to research. I want the amps to sound similar, but a little bit different. After the jam session, my buddy said he preferred the '99 over the '07. He said it had a little bit...
WELL, I thought everything was fixed. I went to jam with an old high school drummer buddy today. We played in a band back in day, and I'm looking for a drummer now. I basically went to audition him. I took both, 1999 and 2007, of my TSL 100 heads. I set volumes for all channels on both...
I forgot about this thread, cause I hit a road block. After all the work was done, the footswitch did not work any differently than before, plus I had the wrong switch, as stated previously. I, instead, built my own 2 button footswitch from another thread on the forum, and it works flawless...
I've been looking on here for a couple of months, trying to figure out WTF was wrong with my amp. I got really discouraged. I had never soldered on a pcb before, and was a little nervous about trying. I got a really good deal on this amp and a 1960BV cab. $500. The cab is worth that, but...
There is a high probability that I will get the new motherboard in the future. But I have 2 TSL heads, 2007 and 1999, and I just want to sharpen my soldering skills by changing these components out. On the 1999 model, of course.
I still may go that way. But, I want to make sure it's not the connection in the head also. It won't matter which footswitch I have if the problem lurks inside.
Here's where I'm at now.
Here's the plug installed:
Thanks for chiming in. I did read about that in another thread. Seems like a really good idea, and something I may try in the future.
Do you happen to have any pics of mod, on the amp side? I haven't even had the back off the amp yet.
I just got one kid out on his own, which freed up...
My main problem is when I hit the lead switch, it will go to the crunch channel. I went ahead and soldered the cable straight to the PCB last night and,,,,, it was still doing the same thing. With a new end and cable. So last night I had the bright idea to take the lead switch off the board...
Also, I think I'm gonna stop by Radio Shack and get some smaller wire strippers. I've had to use a knife so far, truly sucks. I may look into one of those stations to help hold stuff still, you know, the one with the magnifying glass! This stuff is small.
I made the hole bigger, to compensate for the female plug.
Using this:
In this vice:
It fits!
Then, drilled two pilot holes for the mounting screws:
Then, went to install new plug, and BAM! Cordless screwdriver had a mind of its own. Screw wobbled and the screwdriver slipped off the...
