single coil sound from my humbucker

The stock 490r neck pickup on my SG sounds like a single coil sometimes. I'm guessing it's grounding out somewhere. Just where is the question. Everything in the electronics cavity is ok, but before I go ripping everything out I thought I would ask you guys. So, any thoughts? It's a 2 conductor...

    Strings

I love S.I.T. stainless steel strings. The only thing is that they're hard to find. If you can get your hands-on some give them a try. Also I like those Dunlop heavy gauge strings.

Glad I backed out of my AFD100 preorder

I tried one last year at Guitar Center of all places and I thought it sounded great! I would actually just go there sometimes to play it and then leave. It's kind of scary how close they got that tone!! Even with the high price tag I was considering getting it. I wish I would've been able to...

    SL-X tone/pre amp EQ

I'm starting to think it's my T100's the more I hear it. They are supposedly "scoopy" like T75's from what I've read, but I had 75's before and they sound nothing like the T100's. I don't know. Actually with the mids on my amp turned up higher and the EMG's in BC Rich, it sounds pretty bad ass...

    SL-X tone/pre amp EQ

Ok. I just bought a used SL-X off eBay(It's actually my 3rd SL-X) and 90 amp tech dollars later (it was a little messed up when I got it, but that's a whole nother story) it's pretty much everything I want in a head, great Marshall gain, single channel, plain and simple. So my post is more or...

    Wrong ohm setting

If anybody cares, my amp is fine. I've played it a couple of times since at loud rehearsal volume and it sounds great. I biased it and it was a little off, as it always is after a few weeks, but it was fine. After reading everything, I remember years ago while I was touring and gigging with a...

    Wrong ohm setting

Ok. Thanks guys. I'll keep my eye on the tubes. I put new kt77's in a few months back, I'd hate to buy new ones. I appreciate the comments. Keep em coming if you think of anything else.

    Wrong ohm setting

So if the tubes do glow orange or red, what does that means and what can I do? Should I have it looked at or just replace the tubes?

    Wrong ohm setting

OK. Let's say some prick used my stuff at our shared practice spot and he hooked his 8ohm cab up to my head which was set at 4ohm. :wtf:He played it for 15 or so minutes before someone noticed(could've been longer, who knows) When I got there tonight the kid told me and I bit my lip...

Mixing different wattage speakers in the same cabinet

Ok thanks Salsg. I know about impedance and all that good stuff. So if I'm still at 240 watts, is the headroom I'm looking for not there? I suppose the most important for me is the harshness of thd high end I'm looking to get rid of.

Mixing different wattage speakers in the same cabinet

My question specifically is for mixing Celestion V30's with the K100's. I want the low end and the headroom of the K100's, along with the tamed down high end sizzle that the 30's have. Now, will I get the headroom and the low end I'm after with the K100's mixed with the 30's, or because of the...

    JCM900 and Bugera 1990

Hey everyone, great posts. I've playing/trading/buying equipment for 20+years and one thing I have learned about is resale value. I bought a Bugera 1990 knowing that I would have to get work done to it. I had the tubes replaced and a slight issue with it switching channels and $600 dollars later...

    master volume amps

Thanks guys. I'll keep on reading and posting. I've had jj's installed in my Bugera as recommended by the guy who does my amps. I was just using the groove tube rating as an example. I really like the Marshall style head. The sound of driven tubes is amazing and it blows me away how many...

    master volume amps

I'm amp experimenting, shopping and just looking for tone and have a couple questions. As for as heads with no master volume, like the 1959 plexi, as you increase the voulme, the gain is increased, so with that said you would want to put in "early break up" power tubes to get more gain, correct...
