I have had my 1979 2104 combo for 30 years now. I think I paid $825 including tax for it brand new. It came stock with black cloth. Everybody wanted to know how I got a black one, so I would tell them, "I went to the music store where they sold it to me." lol

If it was my amp I would do two things.
1) Clean the unit in the most minimal fashion. It's old and it should look old.
2) Have it checked out by a reputable service tech that you trust.
But that's just me.
Congratulations!!! You have quite a gem on your hands. My suggestion is to keep this beauty bone stock. If you feel the strong urge to mod something, find a less-collectible/rare amp to tweak.

You have to remember that your amp and guitar have a relationship. And the louder the sound is, the more your amp and guitar will play together and feed off of each other. Attenuators and low volume play affect the relationship... they don't communicate the same.
