This response doesn't address your question, but you might find it
of interest never the less. I own a 2205, and I don't find much use for the "normal" channel, as I play mostly hard rock/metal/punk. I'd really love to play through a 2203, for comparison. The 2203 vs. 2205 tone, is a subject of...
I'm currently using a 1960A with the G12T-75's, with a JCM 800
or Mesa Mk III head. Why do you think the Vintage30 speakers would
be better for say metal tones, when many metal tones are scooped?
I'm interested in the tonal difference between the G12T-75 (75 W),
Vintage (70 W), and the Greenback's (30 W)? All of which, I think,
are currently available from Marshall. I'd be using them in a 1960A
4 x 12. Can some people here comment on their experience?
I play mostly old school...
I don't play with the deep switch on with my Les Pauls.
Humbucker's don't sound good to me with that on. I use
the classic gain channel for all rhythm parts and only use
the high gain channel, set in the lead 1 position, for solo's.
I'm not that found of the high gain channel, it sounds...
I wonder if the early sound used stock or modded Marshalls?
Much discussion of the MOP sound has been made. I remember
reading that the enginner's notes on the recording of this album
stated that "a Mk IIC+ was "slaved" into a Marshall power amp,
and a parametic EQ was used to scoop out...
From what I can tell Metallica's 2 guitarists use both Mesa and
Marshall gear. The tone on some of the early material, like seek
and destroy, can be approximated pretty closely with a stock
Marshall high gain tube amp with a scooped mids setting of the
tone controls. However, some of the...
I use a JCM 800 model 2205 (50 W) for metal and hard rock.
The normal channel isn't of any use for this genre, so the amp
is essentially a single channel amp for metal/hard rock. I'd like
to get a volume boost for soloing, so I'm looking into buying
a boost pedal. I've heard good things...
Thanks Sojatriani,
I own a JCM 800 2205 and a DSL50. I'm still experimenting.
My 2205 is set up with EL34s. I understand that the 2205
did not come to the US with EL34s.

I'm still looking to buy a Chandler SDE-2. The SDE-2
features an input level control on the far left,
while the original Chandler does not. Pls email
me if you have one for sale. Thx!

The JCM 800 heads came out in both early single
channel models (2203 and 2204), and later two
channel models (2205 and 2210?). Which of these
models are prefered by players here on the board?
Are there prefered years for the JCM 800 heads?
I've learned that the vertical input models are...
I just learned that it looks like Marshall also made a 2 channel
JCM800 in 50W and 100W models. Are there any preferences
to the 2 channel or single channel JCM800s? What's a fair price
for an original JCM800 in good-excellent shape?
I have a few questions about the JCM 800 series and I
would appreciate some help from forum members, as I'm
a new member and trying to learn. It appears that the
50W (2204) and 100 W (2203) heads came in versions
with vertical and horizontal inputs and also with EL34
and another type of...

I'm experiencing some intermittent crackling and noise.
I suspect the factory tubes that came with my amp
when I bought it a few months ago are crap. Any suggestions
on replacement tubes? Do you recommend a re-bias?
I've had good results with JJ's in my Boogie MkIII, but I don't
think...
