    1936 2*12 cab mods?

Picked up a 1936 MDF and love it. Despite those who want to trash the MDF version - it actually sounds great with good thump. I've experimented and found a small amount of acoustical foam reduced some overtones resulting in a more direct sound from the speakers. I also caulked around the...

    1936 Cab History and Review...

Jack Tone's cab with the 1936 tag looks just like my 2002 MDF cab. I really like the thump I get with this cab and the mids sound great. The serial number on the cab should have the year in it. Mine has the serial number on the jack plate and inside. I changed one of the speakers to a...

    Bugera 1960 Tube Swap

To me the difference between the Bugera and Marshall is that the Marshall sounds sweeter as you turn it up and the Bugera sounds worse cranked.

    Bugera 1960 Tube Swap

I picked up a Bugera 1960 Infintium cheap and first I thought it sounded like a horses ass. Power tubes make some difference but the real problem is that the preamp is too harsh. I put a JJ EC82 in V1 and a 12AU7 in V3. Sounds much better. I have more headroom without getting harsh and...

New tubes for Marshall JCM 800 KK?

I've tried a lot of new and old stock tubes but I keep coming back to Ruby's Experiment with 12ax7AC5 or 12ax7AC7 in V1 and V2 for the inverter tube feeding the Power Tubes try a 12ax7wb for a slight bass bump. Power tubes RUBY 6L6GCMSTR matched and properly biased sound great.

    Marshall AVT50 Mods

I have two combos - AVT50 and AVT20. To make this amp sound better I: 1) Got rid of the stock speaker and swapped it out to a good 8 ohm speaker 2) Open the back slightly - Two 2-1/2" holes or remove about 2-1/2 inches off the bottom of the back will work - cab still tuned low. 3) Plug a...

    Tony Iommi 15w amp

Very sweet amp right out of the box. I had to tweak it with some new EL84s tubes and setting the bias was easy with the onboard bias pot. Sounds great, nicely made.

    AVT20 Mods

Amen a new speaker and small port made all the difference on my AVT20 and AVT50. I also found that I like the sound of an 8 ohm speaker better than the stock 16 ohm. Another thing to try is putting a jumper in the effects loop (AVT50) if you don't use the loop. On the AVT20 I run a jumper...

    Marshall AVT50 Mods

I'm convinced that this amp sounds better pushing 8 ohms instead of the 4 ohm stock speaker. The stock speaker has a nasty upper mid spike around 3K that is reedy and annoying. I plugged into a 2x10 cab with Jensen Neos 10-100 wired for 8 ohms and it sounded like a whole different amp...
