One amp to rule them all

Hehe, I doubt it. I mean, that's just ridiculous. But it got me thinking. In your quest for tone have you ever felt like you have finally arrived once and for all? Sometimes I have days when I say to myself, "This is it. I love my little Marshall 2061x. It can't possibly get any better." Then...

Use less gain, raise your action, pick harder

Great posts, everyone! Thanks so much for the feedback. As quirky as my thread may be, I'm grateful to find a home here and happy to see some communion around the topic. Rock on, y'all!

Use less gain, raise your action, pick harder

Any disciples of the conviction that sweet Marshall grind is (dare I say it?) best achieved with less gain, raised action and a disciplined picking hand? Oh...and of course, a Marshall! Not to knock any gainy-gain enthusiasts with a slick neck. It's just that for some genres and playing styles...

    NAD Marshall Class 5 ....Again

Right on! A great amp, indeed. I have a Class 5 head and love it. It's an unusual amp in the Marshall lineage given its use of EL84 power tubes, class A design, etc. But those quirks are what set it apart. It's also affordable, which is a big deal. There's an awful lot of "inflated ego stuff"...

I'm "this" close to a used JCM2000. Help me get even more excited!

Nice find! The JCM2000 DSLs are the perennial workhorses of the Marshall family. They're just consistently solid amps through the years. I've had mine (DSL100) for about twenty years. I'll never part with it. They're still dirt cheap, which astounds me. Someday, they'll enter the coveted space...

    NAD: Marshall 2061X

100%! He and a few others have some great videos on the old PA20, Bass 2019 and other iterations that informed the 2061 at the dawn of the reissue era, all of which weighed heavily in my decision to seek this amp out. Thanks for sharing the inspiration!

    NAD: Marshall 2061X

Good question! I'm not sure, as I haven't played one of those amps. I've heard very good things, though. For the 2061X, all I can add to the conversation is that these amps seem to amplify the guitar transparently, as opposed to coloring over the sound of the guitar with heaps of drive and...

    NAD: Marshall 2061X

Holy hell, I love this little fella! Any 2061X lovers out there too? I've just begun to poke around, but my Strat with vintage 57/62 pups is already quite happy on the low input/lead channel (tone on 10, volume on 6.5). And so am I! Good grief, this thing freaking rules! I've been searching...

The Class 5 is a wonderful little amplifier

Well, isn't it? I'm just showing some love for an amp that doesn't get much affection or attention. Have you played one? Better yet - do you own one? If so, what do you love about yours? I picked up a Class 5 head recently and I adore it. It's simple, sounds splendid with a Strat and stands...

Request for help: DSL100 power instability on power-up

Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your insights and suggestions! It is very nice to get such excellent feedback and support from you. I think you're all spot on too. I have one additional observation to offer, and I wonder if it supports your reasoning: If I were to use the amp for a while, then...

Request for help: DSL100 power instability on power-up

Hi Everyone, I have a DSL100 head that struggles with power instability on power-up. I plan to take the amp to get serviced by a professional, but I'd be glad to hear your take on what may be going wrong. I'm intrigued by the problem, and I hope you may be too. Thanks in advance. Some...
