Hi everybody!!!
I have purchased a Marshall head which came with a pre-Rola 4x12 cab and I would like to find out which model it is.

The head seems to be from 1980, with Drake trannies, and it has been modified by adding a Master Volumen and an effects loop. It has 4 inputs with two channels.
It is stamped Lead 50watts but I dont know if it is a 1987, 2204 or something else.

Could you please helpme to identify it?

I post below some photos of the head.

Many thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!!

Nice score! Looks to be a 1987 transition year, it's got the JMP headshell and faceplate. Looks also to be modded with an effects loop an extra preamp tube for an extra gain stage, and possibly a ppimv installed.

The extra preamp tube is likely a buffer and recovery stage for the tube buffered effects loop.
Model 1987
Year 1980
Last year of the JMP's although there are a few stragglers in '81 and possibly later in Scandinavia.
Cool find.

I wonder if it's been converted to a 2204 of sorts. Regardless, very cool!!

Many thanks for the helpful info, guys!!!

What would be a reasonable selling price for the head?
I purchased the head just because it came with a 1970 4x12 cab with pre-rola Celestions, the perfect match for my '70 1987 head.

Difficult question. What country are you located? Marshalls are far cheaper east of the Atlantic (UK)

in the US JMPs are at a premium, but there are a few strikes against your amp.

The most valuable JMPs are early 70s NMVs (1987) and late-70s MVs (2204) in that order. Late 70s NMVs are quite a bit less-valuable than Early-70s and often less than the MVs, so you have a ”less valuable” NMV off the bat.

Your amplifier has also been heavily modified. In today’s environment, I would say your amp has been butchered (I certainly would say that of the same amp to a local seller). The mods can be fully-functional but they are clearly non-reversible with the drilled-out chassis.

In pristine condition I would say a fair price is $2,500 (possibly in the $3K with patience). I personally would not be interested in your amp for more than $1,500. Others may comment that is on the low side but I have trouble believing it would sell in the $2k range being a less desirable JMP and hacked like that.

I wouldn't worry about the.mods, they were quite common back in the day, and made the amp far more usable. On yours, with the extra knobs and jacks on the back panel, they're quite discrete too.

A common way of doing the PPMV was to remove one of the input jacks from the front plate (normal, low sensitivity IIRC).YORhe jack socket got wrapped in masking tape and left connected inside the chassis, if the tech had half a brain. Then the PPIMV was put iitthe vacant hole. More user-friendly, but a bit more obvious.
