Hi all. I have been into arabic scales especialy the ones which can be played on equal tempered instruments for a few years now and I have a particular affinity with the maqam Saba Zamzam.
It should evoke the mystery of the unseen with creeping dread and weeping lamentation of painful loneliness in the mids of a distant night desert.
In the video below i practice improvisation with unmodified E maqam Saba ZamZam (Phrygian flat4) and its modes: F Lydian diminished, G Zanjaran/Mixolydian b2, Ab Lydian #2 #5, B Locrian bb7, C Shawq Afza/Harmonic Major, D Nahawand Murassah/Dorian b5 . Progression of chords : Em / Fm over E / Em / Dm7 b5 over E. A is tuned to 444Hz.
Enjoy
