Hey guys!
I've got a JCM2000 DSL100 which I love, and I'm looking for a great speaker combo to put in an Avatar vintage style 2x12..
I've heard that using two speakers at a different wattage rating isn't as simple as 1+1=2. Is it correct that a V30 (60w) + a T-75 (75w) just gives 75 watts instead of 60+75=135?

tl;dr - What's the best speaker combo for a 2x12 that can handle my 100w DSL?

Thanks in advance (;

a 60W and a 75W together in a cab will share the power equally, so you get 2x the rating of the lower one, ie 120W. Seems like a good plan!

I have run a DSL100 through older 800 series 2x12's for years, with Marshall Vintage and G12H anniversaries together...the latter rated 30 watts...NEVER had an issue.

That, IMHO, is the best combination in a 2x12, for what you are doing, and the head you have.
Either speaker by itself, doesn't quite do it. Together it's pretty impressive.

The G12 75 and Vintage 30 works well, too, as a second choice.
I am pretty sure the guy (Dave?) at Avatar will agree both are great combinations.

I was just about to post the same question for my dsl50, I'm looking at the vintage avatar 2x12 as well. Personally, I'm looking to add warmth and fatten up the sound, my 1x12 v30 is really thin and brittle. I've been recommended a v30 and g12h30 anniversary combo from Dave, but I'm considering just getting both g12h30's that way I can put my vintage 30 in there if I don't like it already. How about you

Nothing but good things to say about Dave and Avatar.
I orginally got my avatar cab with the V30 and G12H30. Great combination with a big full range. Finally had to swap out the G12H30,, it's got an ear piericing top end to it that was just too much for me with a bright amp. While they have a nice warm bottom and lower mid, I can't imagine a pair(G12h30's) with a DSL.
If I had to do it again I'd definetly get the larger 2x12 cab as well. (better bottom end).

I originally got my avatar cab with the V30 and G12H30. Great combination with a big full range...... (but) While they have a nice warm bottom and lower mid, I can't imagine a pair of (G12h30's) with a DSL.

Right on.
However, I haven't had a problem with the G12H30 being too bright when mixed with the V30...must be a real bright amp, or guitar....or the presence is on 10...:wow:

But the comment about the DSL and G12H30 alone is true. The mids aren't there, and the top end on the DSL can be relentless with that speaker by itself..

I have a dsl100 and used it with my mc2x12 cab that I put 2 v30's 16ohm wired for 8ohm. I really liked the sound of it. It was great all around. The dsl has much more eq control than a lot of older amps like a jcm800 for example, which I have several of. They had a dark lower mid grind that was killer for metal with the dsl. I just put two uk made greenbacks in that cab so I haven't played the dsl with those yet but I do like the jcm800's better with the greenbacks. I don't know with the dsl yet.

IMO best speaker combo for DSL (and TSL) is the one from TSL C212 (now called JVM C212). A 'Marshall Vintage' and a 'Marshall Heritage' speaker in series. These cabs are definitely worth checking out.
This pair will withstand the 100W power from the amp and will not lack in any part of the spectrum. Sits nice in a mix and is fun to play.

400$ for a used one.
You won't find many ued ones though - there is a reason for this.
And the reason is the tone.

No. I just bought a 1936 from Sourmash. The cab was $280 which includes an upgraded speaker jack that allows 4, 8, or 16 ohm and option to run in stereo. A pair of WGS speakers were an additional $150.

Total cost, shipped with speakers was $430.

I have to say that Bob at Sourmash was a pleasure to deal with.
