Get a 6101. Any Marshall sound available and a workhorse that sounds awesome in any channel. I also have a 1912 cabinet so I can have two speakers to push more air but being 100 watts, the single 12 in the 6101 will push a lot of air. You can also turn it to 50 watts or 25 watts if needed. Bought mine for $500.

Most versatile Marshall combo for under $500? JMD 501 by a long shot, but you have to shop carefully. The Haze 40 is good too if you don't need high gain without a pedal, it is very versatile too.
