I just picked up a very clean JCM900 2500 today, and now I'm searching for a good cab to compliment. What do you guys suggest on a budget?

I see Marshall 1960 cabs on craigslist for around $300 frequently. I bought one from a pawn shop (my jcm900 cab) for $250 plus tax. Keep an eye open and you'll find a deal.

Thanks. Do those speakers do it justice? I was thinking a cheaper cab(non-marshall) and putting in some v30's/greenbacks.

Well, it is a matter of preference I suppose. I like the g12-75's fine. They are a more of a scooped sound, but I can easily adjust my amp to my liking. I have a Marshall cab with greenbacks, and it is much brighter sounding and I sometimes play the mkiii through that cab. Again, I adjust my settings to my liking. V-30's are probably in between those two speakers and i would think you could get acceptable tone from any of them unless you have a very particular taste. They all sound different, but they all sound good to me.

With Marshall 1960 cabs going for $300 I would just get one of those. I see used 19660's with v-30s going for $400 to $450 on CL and sometimes even Greenbacks for a little more.

Thanks, I'm leaning in the Marshall 412 direction. I'll just get a stock 1960 for now if I can find at a decent price. What about the 1936?

the 1936 is cool and sounds good but a 4x12 is the way to go.
i use my 1936 a fair amount but when i have to crank i bring the 4x12.

+1 on those prices. I've had all three types of cabs with my 2500. They all sound great. What kind of music do you play?

I got a 1960a Lead for $150 off CL in the OC. It has 2 dead speakers and one with a hole it. I rewired it for 8 ohms on top until I can get a couple of speakers.

Can anyone tell me if the WGS speakers are good on a budget? I'm thinking the Veteran 30's are for me. The reviews on Harmony Central seem to have nothing but high regard for them.

Thanks

Oh yeah, I play mostly punk, ie. Bad Religion, SxDx etc.

You can probably pick up some more g12-75s on CL cheap. I never have tried anything other than celestions. I played a jcm 800 once through an 8 ohm 4x12 cab loaded with Fender Eminence speakers a few times around 1990. It sounded OK, but not as good as through a jcm800 lead series 1960 with the g12-75's.

i got a 4100 in 93 with the1960A. when I moved the head came with. I got a avatar traditional 412 w v30s. then i shipped the 1960A cabinet back here. Now the 4100 halfstack is restored & my 1992 sits atop the avatar.

Both GT-75s & V30s sound right with a JCM 900

MF400. I have video where I recorded my 2500 with the MF400 close miked with an SM57 in pro tools with my PRS. I have gotten lots of complements on the tone. I like the cab a lot. It may be for you. It's the best cab I have ever heard. Watch the video in 720 or 1080p for best sound.
