Ok, so considering the DSL20CR vs the DSL40CR at "street" prices (15%-20% off MAP) are only about $120-$130 apart, given that the DSL20CR comes with the unloved Seventy-80 which will require a ~$100 replacement... what's the point of buying the 20CR? The 40C sounds great at low volume, and I understand that the 40CR does at least as well in that department. Just curious because I'm a three hour drive away from trying either of them out personally...

And that is exactly the reason I have a 40 incoming.

the 20 has 1 less preamp tube and I read a former 40c owner liked the 40c crunch over his 20,smaller output trans on the new models

So, for well over a year people have been screaming their necks off for marshall to build 20 watt amps. And now when they do, it doesn't make sence?...be careful with what you wish for..it might come true..

Well, I phrased it as a question for a reason... I'm all ears...

I think it’s a portability thing. The 20 combo makes no sense when the 40 exists but, it’s smaller. If you need a grab and go it works better for that.

The 20 head makes sense since the 40 is combo only but the 20 combo, I dunno.

At that price point, no.

The head version may be a different type of solution, because you could probably get a really nice 1X12 that might be more to your taste.

I bought a DSL 40 thinking it would be my drag around amp. Mmmm, no. Way too awkward and heavy for a grab and go so there's that difference. I would consider the DSL20R or Origin 20 combo for that role.
