Drum Machine On A 1987x

Hey folks
I'm gravitating towards buying a 1987x. However, I use my drum machine for practice on a DRRI by hooking it in the clean channel and playing through the tremolo channel. Will I be able to do that on 1987x without putting it in the effects loop? (I might use for an attenuator/volume pedal).

If I just hook it up one of the inputs it would have a distorted sound when I crank the amp I guess.

Can this be done, or do I need a two channel amp with a dedicated volume and eq section for each channel?

I guess it would ... but in my case, it takes more space. I'm just an old timer and a hobbyist.

You can get a Behringer MPA40BT under $200 and it's compact , portable, and great for other uses.

I've been thinking lately, after what was discussed here, of recording directly through a preamp hooked into a mixer. I looked at the possible tube preamps out there and found a few...any experiences with any of them ? Your comments would be highly appreciated...
