No complaints about anyone already mentioned. Bill Ward is my personal favorite, followed by Danny Carey. I know everyone loves to hate Dave Grohl, but he is pretty damn good. Lots of power. Speaking of powerful, I saw Big Business a few weeks ago. Their drummer, Coady Willis (also played with the Melvins) hits the drums harder than anyone I've ever seen. He throws his whole body into it.

Phil Selway from Radiohead is also really good, and plays outside the usual hard rock idiom.

There are tons of jazz drummers who I don't know at all who are amazing.

I'm a little sad I read this whole thread and nobody has mentioned Buddy Miles so far (unless I missed it). God damn Buddy Miles! Not only was he always so solidly in the pocket, he sang like a mofo too!

Carmine Appice needs to be mentioned too. Maybe just Cactus in general, because for f*cks sake that's killing rock and roll. Bust them rocks baby.

Who's the drummer for the Roots?
(Jimmy Fallon's band...)
The one with the comb stuck in his hair...

Anyway, I don't like him. Buddy Miles is great though!

That's Questlove if I'm not mistaken. He's a solid pocket drummer too, but a little boring for my tastes.

But I can't believe that Charlie Watts got a mention...

 I've never really taken the time to focus on the intricacies of drumming or what makes a good drummer (besides timing of course). I do feel like if there's anyone I'd want to hold down a solid beat over a jam it'd be him.

Corky Laing is another underrated drummer.

P.S. - Leslie West KILLS the guitar at the Fillmore. I know I've played really loud before, but I'm not sure I've ever play THAT loud. I don't think anybody has but Leslie West and Lemmy. Man, imagine them two on stage at the same time? Felix must have blown every single speaker in that bass cabinet at that show too.

Edit: I had to come back just to say that this song always makes the hair stand up on my neck. That guitar tone.

Charlie Quintana is probably a guy you've never heard of too, but he's the man behind most of Social Distortion's studio albums and one of Mike Ness's solo albums. The dude can punk rock 2-step like no other.

I know everyone loves to hate Dave Grohl, but he is pretty damn good

im not sure how he got such phenom status...he's solid for sure, but one dimensional imo. youve heard one grohl drum track, youve heard em all.

kinda the same deal as tommy lee to me.

bonham is the benchmark for rock drums...the subtle things he did and his recorded sounds are just awesome. billy conway is one of my favs too.

Tommy Lee I agree with. He's more famous for being a wild ass rock and roller than a drummer. Nikki Sixx too. He's a pretty simple bassist, but he did write all those songs for Motley Crue so he's a bad ass.

How about some Grohl doing Bonham. I used to hate on the Foo Fighters until I saw this, now I have respect.
