I love both of my 900 MKIII and SLX-EL34 they are just basic in your face Marshalls. I have installed mods on both amps. Next I will get the DR 900 and play with that. I have never had a Marshall that was missing the Marshall tone.

just install a choke if not installed. and some new tubes always a must with any used amp.

I always re-tube because I don't know what type of life the original tubes had.
I would hate to have a tube fail at a show because the old tubes had a hard life.
The choke helps to loosen the tone up to my ears. The choke is part of the power filter circuit all old Marshalls have them to save money they just stick a resistor in its place to save money now. When they made a JVM for Joe Satriani Marshall installed a choke. I think most JCM 800s have them and all Bogner amps.

only one of my Marshall amps was new the rest I got used. I also put new power filter caps on my JCM 900 MKIII.
