I would really appreciate your help identifying my JCM 800 Lead Series head. I'm a little confused on:

(a) the wattage
(b) the model number (2203, 2204, etc.)
(c) the year and
(d) its ballpark value.

I bought it used from Guitar Center about 5 years ago, and GC had it marked as a 50 watt head. The serial number is "S/A U32414," but the spaces next to "Model" and "Power" are blank (or the info has worn off). The book "The History of Marshall" says that that serial number is for a 50 watt head made in 1986: "S/A" means 50 watts, and "U" means 1986 (see chart below.)

But it has FOUR EL34 power tubes, not two, which I think means it's 100 watts, not 50 watts. (See pics below)

Thank you all for your help!

:welcome: to the forum.
(a) 4 power tubes = 100w
(b) 2210
(c) U in serial number = 1986
(d) $1,500 - 2,000 depending on condition & location.

The above info is correct. To be even more specific, the brown cloth left the factory as black. For a short time the grill cloth was fading to brown. The supplier realized the goof and fixed it but they still ran the cloth until it was gone.

You can ignore the S/A thing. I don't know why that was ever out in print. It only applies to the early years of Marshall. There are thousands upon thousands of 100W heads with S/A in the serial number.

Yep. It's a 2210. Two-channel, reverb, 100 watts, diode clipping. It's pretty much identical to one I sold several years ago:

Mine was a 1989. The serial will tell you the year, but I don't remember how.
