Lipstick Pickups. Educate Me Please.

Lipstick pickups.

Anyone use them? They are sort of the last frontier of pickups for me. I don't recall ever trying one. Fender had a brief run of American Standard Strats with them about 5 years ago, but I stayed away for fear it was just a run on the mill Strat pup in a lipstick casing.

They pulled that BS on me with my MIJ Jazzmaster. I put in a pair of Curtis Novaks to correct that issue right quick.

I'm listening. :)

I don't know man, I figure its a ladies pickup and you gotta wear lipstick when you play them LOL. Actually I knew a guy who had a Strat with lipstick pickups and he sounded phenomenal no different than any other Strat I ever heard. I did read somewhere the inventor of the pickup used an actual lipstick container to encase his pickups but to my knowledge its just a single coil pickup like any other, its really just the looks that represent a certain time in history.
