Trying to get hold of a logo for my '67 SL 100. Is anyone aware if there are sources over and above Marshall's reissue logo and Music Ground's logo? Wouldn't use Music Ground, although their logos are superb, under any circumstances.

Any help would be appreciated. I am in the UK but happy to buy in the US.

Thanks

Guy

Unfortunately, I think those are your only 2 options. If a real, used, logo came up for sale, it would probably go for crazy money, and I can't remember the last time, if ever, I saw one for sale anyway...

MG sucks from an ethical POV, but their logo is as close to the real deal as you're going to find these days. If you do go with a Marshall repro, cut the pins and glue it on rather than drilling out the original headbox holes.

Cheers!

Hey Clammy

What a brilliant idea - it didn't occur to me that I could glue it to the front of the box. Is there any type of glue that wouldn't damage the tolex or is it a case of going with super glue and live with the consequences?

I just can't bring myself to buy anything from MG - they are the bottom of the barrel and even if ther logos are near perfect it would really pain me to think that they are making a buck off my back! :)

I've never done it myself, but I would try a water-based general-purpose glue. That way if you ever need to remove it, it shouldn't damage the levant. Maybe someone who's done it can chime in with a solid suggestion.

Cheers!

This. i heard good things about them

They are pretty much spot-on, but the OP doesn't want to deal with MG on ethical grounds, and I can't say I blame him. They're very shady.

Cheers!

Thanks guys for all your help and suggestions! On ethical grounds I have decided to use MG and go for a Marshall repro logo, although I'll have to deal with the issue of the pins not matching up. Why do they do that?!!!! Having said that Marshall are just brilliant to deal with - although I'm in the UK I've always found them to be REALLY pleasant and helpful and their 'buy direct' prices are always lower than retailers which is impressive. They also recover cabs and manage to undercut all the specialist companies whilst doing a faultless job. Whenever I phone them they can't do more to help!! And.....I don't work for Marshall!!! :)
Anyway, I will install it when it arrives tomorrow and send a photo through with the logo installed, whichever way I have to do it!

What I did with mine was to leave on and use whatever pins fitted, and cut off those that didn't, then take several small gold safety pins, and cut off the pin so I had tiny gold headless "nails" about a half inch long. I then tacked the pinless parts of the logo into the wood of the cab, and tapped the nails flush with the gold surface of the logo, leaving them almost invisible. Quick, glue free, completely reversible and sturdier than glue which I found difficult to stick to the polythene material the new logos were made of.

In mid 1969 they changed the pin spacing. Early 69s had the narrow spacing and the later models had the wider which most all aftermarket logos should fit. Someone in the Metro forums measured th exact MG spacing and said it was perfect for early models. This is what I read about the MG logos.

I have a pair of 1969 basket weave 4x12 cabs but I got in the early 80s. Even back then I knew they were highly collectible so I never toured with them.

One of them has the original 100 logo the other one does not. So I just purchased two of the replica 100 logos and realize that they do not fit in the holes. Somebody suggested that I cut off one plastic pin and put a small dab of Elmers glue which will not hurt the cabinet? I wish I could find an original logo and I know it wouldn't be cheap. For some reason when they made the replica logos they are not the correct spacing size for the original basket weave cabinets. I wonder if anyone made the non-authorized logos. I don't want to drill any holes in this cabinet.
