Hey all,
I found a '83 JCM 800 2203 here in France for 1,200 USD and don't know if I should buy it.
I tried the RE-ISSUE a month ago and I JUST LOVED IT. If the amp is from 83, the sound is going to be better? more distortion or not ? because i think the one i tried (reissue) was just awesome, with the gain i wanted.

I can't try the amp because i don't live there... but i can't take the RI, it's to expensive for me ! (can't save money anymore)

Here are the photos, i don't know about handwired, vintage parts so thanks to the guys who will help me know if the amp is in good conditions!

I believe that is the sought after year/model here in the US, the model with the vertical inputs. I would sell for $1100 to $1200 here in the US, so that is probably a fair price. As long as it is in good shape I'd say buy it!

for the 2203 the vertical input is desirable. don't think it matters for the 2204.
Marshall cut the number of Capacitors to save money on the 2203.

+1 go for it :dude:

yip, same here, ....as long as it is in good working condition, you'll love it.

...Is is better than the 2203x....well, that depends on who ya ask,.....I'd say it will be at least as good,....probably better. Probablly about the same amount of gain though.

Agree with the above: that's the 800 to get. Here where I live $1200 is about spot on market price, maybe even a couple hundred cheap. If it works as it's supposed to, I'd buy it. Nice find!

IMO, they are better than the 2203X.....a most desirable amp.....and on fleabay here people are asking much more from what I've seen...if it works well and checks out....I think it would be a great addition to what you have....Supposedly these vertical input amps were made like the JMP 2203s.....

Definitely buy it. I just got an '87 2204 and it is the best amp I ever played through. You will not regret the purchase.

i had/have both the reissue and the original at the same time and the original sounds better. allthough marshall did a pretty good job on the 2203 reissue overall it has a thinner tone than the original.

I had both as well, and agree they did a good job with the 2203x. I did appreciate the effects loop as well.

I actually think the 2203x had a tad bit more gain than my originals, and less bass/bottom end punch/girth.
