Hey all,
Long time lurker and seldom poster! I recently picked up my second vintage Marshall, a 71 SL to go with my 73 1987. I was delighted to find the 73 I was going to look at was in fact a 71 ;)
The tolex is bad and most of the numbers were worn off. I wasn't expexting much but got a nice surprise when I opened her up.
Laydown tranny, Rosemary (fwiw) and pretty much original. The power socket is changed (I got the original with the amp) and the power light has also been changed. Something with the power switches too being rewired but they look like the originals.
She sounds great, haven't had a chance to knock any walls with her yet though!
As I'm not technically minded with amps, do you guys see anything jumping out at you? I know she's well due a cap job, but she plays and sounds great so far.
PIcs to come..

Boy, you are a troublemaker... First you double post the same thing and then you post links to no pictures.
Use the "upload a file" button on the lower right for pictures when you post.

the innards look virtually untouched, Marshall used a red dye in there solder, so as long as all the joints still have that original red, I don't think its been touched.

Looks respectable.
Replaced V1a plate resistor (you can get 100k 0.5w Pihers quite easily) and a replaced screen resistor on V4 (again the correct 1k 3w Welwyn is also easy to find). Other than the replaced pilot lamp and IEC resistor looks pretty original. I had one of these and it was a monster loud amp!

Congats....I have a '71 SuperLead with a Rosemary signoff....but mine has 6550s......I love the thing...everyone wants it, from friends to studio owners....I'm fortunate to have it and it sounds awesome....I think '71 was a great year for Marshalls, but fact is....all of those years were probably great.....10382652_10202194932935909_8145458932781513379_n.jpg

The good old days when amps were made properly with no expenses spared.

congrats !!!those amps are tone monsters. no marshall can touch them.
The filter caps-if the amp is running regularly and there is no bulging from the caps , no noise or hiss from the amp I think it's safe to run. BUT MAKE IT A POINT TO CHANGE THEM IN THE LONG RUN.
