A storage facility in San Jose California was broken into sometime between Sept 24, 2020 and December 23, 2020 and an entire collection was stolen.

Damn that sucks. I have to be honest though, if someone has all that gear they should have been able to store it safely at home. Storage units are way to risky for anything of any real value IMHO.

I just saw it on San Francisco CL, so it's new to me. Seems like it would be kind of meaningless for the thief(s). How do you move any of that gear with such documentation of serial numbers and descriptions of the gear? You're not going to be selling any of it on Reverb or eBay. You walk into GC with stuff like that and the first thing they're going to do is make sure it's not stolen.

It’s a big job. You’d need a trailer to get them out of there, and then moving them on the street would be difficult as well. Then again, maybe it’s just someone with some severe GAS and they kept them all? I don’t remember an update to the story.

If you check the link, a number of them have been recovered.

I think I might know this guy...if it's him, I have spoken to him on a couple of occasions about his collection long before this theft occurred.

My guess is that the owner had been there in late September and returned in December and realized the theft at that time.

Sucks though, no matter, because a lot of good stuff in there as well, & he considers those offsets good stuff, too, so who am I to devalue them, based on my dislike for surf guitars...

I agree, its got to be either someone he knows that he stored the instruments at that location OR it had to be somebody who witnessed the gear being unloaded and stored like an employee of the facility

My thoughts also. At first, I was like that sucks all these guitars never get played, just sitting there as an investment. Investment?

He would have been better off buying an old Marshall stack or Dumble and a few pre-CBS stratocasters, a couple of Gibson Les Pauls, a real '59, or two. Full Boogie C+ stack, some old Martins. Stufff he'd play and show off, not semi-good guitars in a fucking warehouse.

Too bad all the way around really. I can't believe someone hasn't jumped at the $ in the reward.
