I posted my NAD a couple of weeks ago after picking up a really nice ‘70 Marshall 1986 Bass Head and a mint condition 2017 Marshall 1936V cab.

The stock G12-Vintage speakers in the cab sounded okay, but I would like to experiment with different speakers that might better suit tithe amp.

I have a few 8 ohm speakers but I would prefer not to rewire that cab, so I want to stick with 16 ohm speakers.

I’m currently running one Scumback M75 (65 watts and a smaller magnet) and one stock G12-Vintage speakers in the cab.

I’m thinking of trying a G12-H30, a Heritage G12-65, a Greenback, or a Creamback (not sure which one) with the Scumback.

I am leaning on trying new and UK made Celestion speakers to start, however a vintage G12-65 is not out of the question,

If I hear improvement, I may swap out the Scumback with another speaker.

I want to stick with Celestion speakers.

Your speaker suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

In a longer perspective I think speakers from that era, like T1281, T1511, or T1221, would suit that very nice amp. Probably need a quad for safe power handling, and the 1986 would look great on top of a Marshall 4x12.

I haven't tried the "Celestion Heritage G12H (55 Hz) 12'' 30W Made In England" myself, but if it's anywhere near my T1281's a pair of those could sound nice in the 1936 (although power handling might be on the limit).

If i wanted to add some bite to the Marshall, I'd go H30. If not I'D go with the Heritage 65 which will be smoother than the H30.

Ive never used a SB M75. I do use the H30's and Heritage 65's however not with your Marshall Bass head which i assume is a warmer Marshall out of the gate?

If after you finish trying other speakers for your cab and you want to sell the G12 Vintage speakers, please reach out to me. I just got a 412 and I want to replace 2 of the speakers with those.

Creamback65 is my go to for everything. Sounds right with every amp and every type of music.

Thanks for everyone’s input, I wish that could afford to try everyone’s good suggestions.

It was between the Heritage G12-65 and the Anniversary G12H-30 and I found a deal on the G12H-30 that was too good not to try.

Thanks again!

Speaker update. I now have a Scumback M75 and a G12-H30 in the cab. The Scumback was a game-changer. It seemed to smooth out the cabs tone and sounded good with the one stock G12 Vintage speaker.

Never leaving well enough alone, I installed a UK made G12-H30. It’s still in the break-in phase so the jury is out, whether it’s an improvement over the stock speaker.

G12 T75 is what I have. They get given a lot of stick but I like them and they're really full frequency, great for massive delay sounds.

Me thinks the sound of vintage Marshall amps are sensitive when it comes to speakers and iron. I would run prerolas or blackbacks and be done with it. 25W. Nothing else compares. I also like G12H30's but generally with 100W amps. Here is my 72 1986 with a 72 cab sporting prerolas. 102/3 cones and black tabs. Super killer amp! The cab to the right is a 1970 basketweave with 25W speakers as well!

Are you planning on getting another Scumback?
