Been on my mind lately.

Have a couple acoustics 12s, but not an dedcated electric.

Can buy a mint 80s MIJ for about the same price as a new MIJ

Thoughts?

I too developed a case of G.A.S. for a 12 string electric.
My first one was a Rickenbacker 381 Mapleglo.

Didn't keep it for very long, was too scared of mucking it up and the neck was rather thin (width wise).
It had tuning issues but I was able to have it repaired by Rickenbacker.
After that, In my searching I found a fair number of "Non-Brand" guitars that played really well and held tune just fine.
The one I ended up with is a Sanatoga.
Nice wide neck, holds tune great and around $300.
For the amount that it Actually gets played it's firkin prefect.

I also considered a Danelectro for a little more

Yes
Danelectro and Rickenbacker were my thoughts for a hollow. And I feel hollow can really bring out the dynamics of a 12.
Hence one of my questions about the Strat XII
