Hey guys,

bougt myself a JMP 2204 from `79. Awesome amp but I wasn`t happy with the sound of my cab. It`s a 1960 A with 75s speakers.
The cab sounds nice with my DSL but with the JMP it`s so bright....

So I think I´m gonna watch out for a 1960ax with the Greenbacks....

What do you think about that? any suggestions or experience with these cabs?
I also wanna know weather I should buy a new or a used one.....

Thanks for your help

Bon

Try to find a JCM800 cab. with four Celestion G12-65's........I have one and it sounds amazing with my '78 2204. :D

This is a recording of what it sounds like at one of my jam nights.

Greenbacks are the way to go...

I have not been able to try 65's with my 2204 but I really want to.

The 65's are voiced so nicely in the mids..........no harshness at all.

My favorite speaker with any Marshall amp head .:dude:

I second the g12-65 suggestion. Its a bit of a looser speaker, but it has a bit more restrained top end and more evident low mids than a greeaback. This is what my ears heard anyway.

Either the JCM 800 cab with 65's or one of those new AX cabs with the 25's would be a solid choice. The 25's will break up if you're into speaker breakup, the 65's won't, but they're both solid sounding speakers. I've played a 2204 (and a 2203) through both cabinets, and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

can´t tell you how the difference are between the old GBs and the new ones, but the G12H speaker deliver more low-end as the G12M as far as i know.
i´ve an old 1982 cab, which had originally G12H30s 55Hz in it, and this cab produced a very nice low-end, which i never hear with any other speaker.

a fellow 2204/SG owner here

i have greenbacks and love the breakup/tone. in a 4x12, 4 greenbacks (100W) is a good
cabinet for a 50W amp thats capable of 90W when distorted.

check out warehouse guitar speakers AKA WGS. they have a "green beret" which
is a greenback clone. the consensus with WGS is that they sound better than Celestion's.
if you want to be able to use a 100W head with the cabinet they have a 50W
version called the "Invader"

I run a 1960B w/ G12T75's and a 1960BX w/ Greenbacks. I love the combination. The Greenbacks are balanced, warm and crunchy. The 75's provide a tight low end and some piercing Marshall highs.
