What is your favorite brand of guitars and why? Was your first guitar also this brand? If you can't choose your numero uno, what are your top 3?

For me hands down Jackson. It was not my first guitar or my second. It was my third guitar. 2 other brands I like would be schecter and esp/ltd

Jackson is 1. In terms of build quality, playability, etc, pre-fender MIA Jacksons have been unbeatable. ESP is certainly on-par for quality, but their ‘original’ designs are lackluster and uninspiring to me, sometimes trashy.

Gibson is there like Harley Davidson. There is a heritage to love but the current state of affairs may be enough to turn your back on the company and deal with the used market.

Early '80s Greco LPs, for quality of construction, attention to detail, and TONE (Fuji-Gen factory). Their Strats became MIJ Squiers, then Fenders, when they discontinued Greco Strats, Teles etc, upon winning Fender Japan contract.

dude this......
this is a cool question and I feel where your coming from,
but damn this is gonna be hard for us older guys.
a lot of cool guitars have been in these hands over the yrs
of different makes and models. some I kept, some I let slip away.
ive been blessed to at least play some amazing vintage and high end gear
though I didn't own it but was in a position where I had some good opportunities.

now then, there again ive had my fair share of junk too but I guess ive been lucky
and a bit educated as I really cant complain now.
a top 3 list would be next to impossible to document. so much thought
and second guessing myself on that one to just be able to limit myself
or paint myself into that corner. .

i'll go this way, top 3 and I'm gonna base this on a few things too if I may,

A, best bang for the buck
I'm talking get what ya pay for, none of that custom shop stuff included in this.
anybody can get this type of gear ok.

B, best pliability,
this is more of a personal thing here. so I'm gonna go on what feels right in MY hands.
again this might be different for everybody else though.

C, built like a damn tank,
I'm talking rugged. some kind of punk rock, 80's metal, meets Pete Townshend and still
be up for tomorrow nights gig type of shit here ok...... fucking RUGGED.

1, Jackson/Charvel
together or after they split.

2, Ibanez
like the original 550's or any close incarnation as close in quality.

3, Fender
for the Stratocaster and telecaster. these are a set. one should never be w/o the other
just point blank end of story lol. damn they (with help from a very big name, ok two)
gave us the PartsCaster. I don't think any of us can fault them for that.

all 3 of these fit my list above for ME. might not work for everybody.

I like Gibson - I don't get all the hate. To me nothing has ever sounded as good as a Les Paul plugged into a Marshall. That's the shit

This. It's become fashioable to hate on Gibson, with some merit. But the Les Paul is rock music. My first guitar for 30 years was a Fender 57 JV MIJ Strat, but once I played an LP, it was game over. Sort of the reverse of most guitar players.

Despite the company's relatively recent troubles, Gibson by a mile. Yes, I've had to search through different guitars, but the ones I found are the best instruments for me. Both my 2013 Standard and R9 are the best guitars I've ever played.

That’s a tough one.

I honestly think I’d have to say Gibson though, even with their reputation they make the most guitars that catch my eye. Esp, Jackson, music man, dean, they’re all great but Gibson does stand out to me.

Hamer USA by a mile.
You can buy these without playing them with confidence.
Top quality woods, fit, finish and tone. Playability is off the charts for ME.

Current production: Shishkov....my Ultimate is like a Hamer on steroids.

#1 Fender (Jake E Lee, Joe Holmes, Young Vai)
#2 Gibson (Wylde, Jason Hook, Aldrich)
#3 Charvel (Young Vai, Demartini, Govan)

Never owned a Charvel, but I want one.

I agree with the fender and jackson since I have experience with them. As for Ibanez I can't get comfortable with them, but they make solid guitars. Schecter guitars has some really solid shit.
