I like Ernie Ball's Pure Nickel Super Slinky on Les Pauls, top wrapped. It's blissful to play. Ask Jimmy Page or Billy Gibbons.

As for Strats & Tele, I use Ernie Ball Pure Nickel Beefy Slinky. I prefer heavier strings on such guitars. So did SRV, so, there's that.

Can you imagine playing .08 string sets ala Billy Gibbons, talk about an "easy touch" which reminds me of this song.....

Stringing a 12 string sucks!

I can't even remember how to tune mine as it's been that long. I need to find the post that AlvisX made of one of his performances. We discussed the 12 string and his particular tunings as well as Huddie Ledbetter's (Leadbelly) 12 string tunings.

Alvin knows his sh*t! Mine's just tuned up standard old E. Like I said, 80's ballads.

Sounds like you and me both need to stretch out and chart some new waters.

I don't know man, I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing live. Both bands I'm playing with are killing it. When I'm home I step outside of the genre though. I actually enjoy playing country in my down time.

It's good to mix it up every now and then, as consistently performed material can become a tad trite.

Puts you in a rut. I like to challenge myself, especially when playing with the band. Makes me a better musician. Sometimes I look back on things I used to think were difficult to sing or play and they're easy to me now. It's always good to recognize growth.

I like EB classic RnR pure nickel 9s & 10s, but I'll use any brand, except Darco. DR Pure Blues, Fender, Dunlop, Dean Markley and SIT. I like the mellower sound of pure Nickel and they are easier on frets. I like Elixir Phos. Bronze nanoweb 12/53 on my acoustics.
Has anyone here tried Snake oil brand strings?

I use D'Addario 12-53 phosphor bronze on my acoustics. I've also used Fender bullets on my electrics but after snapping those in two occasions (D string on a tele which I found very odd) I stopped buying them. I've tried DR's and went dead in less than two weeks. So far EB (9's or 10's) have done me no wrong. Never broke them and they last me longer.

Back to strings... I played my D12 a little more today and I have to say I love the way Phosphor Bronze sounds vs. 80/20. I'm never buying 80/20 strings for a Martin again.

Gents - don from D'Addario here - First - I want to say thanks to those of you who mentioned that you're long time fans of our product. We greatly appreciate your support. For those of you who haven't been able to check out our new NYXL sets - here's what i'm thinking......

I count 16 miscellaneous sets of NYXL .009s, .010s and .011s, in total on my desk - mostly leftovers from our last giveaway. My email is don.dawson2@daddario.com - the first 16 players to email me - identify yourself with your Marshall forum user ID and what set you'd like, and we'll send you out a set. First come, first served - doesn't matter if you're a fan or just haven't checked them out. This will at least put these 16 sets to good use.

I got the 9-42s this morning and put them on the "Platinum" 2014 Melody Maker. They feel and sound great. Thanks Don.
