Underground music scenes are where its at. Commercial rock music is just gonna suck hard. the days of ac/dc / guns n roses etc are LOOONG gone. Get out there and see some bands. Theres some really killer local bands on my local scene (heavy shit though) but i'd have never known about them had I not gone out to some local gigs

This. Maybe I'm lucky living near Nashville and Memphis, but there are some great local bands playing there who in better times would probably have had a commercial album or two by now.

Go to this page and listen to the clip of Super Trucker. They used to have this on their MySpace page but it's not up for some reason. They are a good band out of Nashville. I sold the guitar player a Laney AOR a few years ago.

I found a site once that was kind of like a family tree for rock n roll. Basically it linked bands by who their musical influences before them were. It was very current and really a great thing. I found out about so many bands that way, new music too. I'll have to try finding it for ya.

Pandora is really the shiznit, but unfortunately you can't get it in Australia, fucken APRA cunts! I would just start reading the rock n roll blogs and seeing what others recommend, then you can go out and download it for yourself, not illegally though.

Black Country Communion

Black Stone Cherry

+1 on Black Country Communion. Great band.

Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple fame on bass and vocals, Joe Bonamassa on guitar and some vocals, Jason Bonham on drums and Derek Sherinian on keys. Vintage sounding hard rock with all the dynamics and hooks. They have 2 albums out and there's not a clunker on either. Saw them live this summer and it was one of the best shows ever and I've been seeing bands for 33 years now.

A band not so well known is Thunderbrew. They are from Delaware. They are killer!!! They have a real vintage guitar sound with song writing to die for! Their stuff gets stuck in your head almost instantly. There is nothing on the radio that comes close to these guys. They have 3 albums and every tune smokes!! JCM 800 2204''s stock is all they use. Almost no effects either and their sound is incredible!! Check em out on the web. If you ever get a chance to see them, don't miss it! The 2 guitar attack is off the hook, these guys are so good!!

A good start would be ReverbNation and then go local- browse the bands in your area, you're bound to find some good ones. As far as on a larger scale, Pandora's good. Even lastfm, where you can type in a band and get back a radio station with them and other comparable acts. You can always check out Stoning Mary (shameless plug heh heh)!

Volbeat is my one band that will not stop playing in my iPod. I'm an old school rocker myself but these guys are killer. Marshall JVM amps and Gibson SG and LesPaul, great combo. Check em out, up and coming for sure.

+1, Volbeat :headbanger: is on my workout and running playlist. Nice thick chunky riffs.

I don't know how anyone feels about Wolfmother, but I liked Cosmic Egg enough to buy it on vinyl. I realize Andrew Stockdale's vox may not be for everyone, but then neither are Geddy Lee's......

Crooked Vultures aren't bad either. Dave "the f**kin' man" Grohl on drums, the dude from Queens of Stone Age on vox and John Paul Jones on bass...

There's some good shit being made these days, just not much (if any) of it makes it onto FM radio. I guess that's the double edged sword of the digital audio age. Bands can write, record and cut a CD or MP3 download and you'd never hear of them.
