What cab would you recommend? I wanna buy a vintage greenback G12 H or G12 M, and put it in to one of 1x12 Marshall cabs. Or another cab?

What wattage head are you using? Hopefully not more than 20 watts unless you're wanting a couple cabs as those speaker max is 25-30 watts

I know this will sound lame, but...

AVT112, while not plywood, it's oversized volume, sounds 100 x's better than the 1912.

it's dimensions are:

23½ x 20¼ x 11 3/8 inches. (w/h/d)

I just put a tape real quick, I can get exact measurements if required, but, just a quick tape on it, that's pretty much what you're looking at.

I'm currently running the greenback H30 (55 hz) 15 ohm & it sounds great. (current model)

Looking around online, they produced different cab's under that name, & most of what I see online do not match, what mine looks like. Make sure the size is close to what I posted.

You could, have a cab made by Sourmash, to similar spec's & will be a killer plywood version. I recommend a cab bigger than the 1912, or the newer MX cab's. The SV/SC 112 cab's, might be a little larger, like this, so that might be an option, although, a more expensive one.

Looking up the SV112, it's smaller:

  • Height:18.9"
  • Width:19.7"
  • Depth:9.7"

4" smaller in width, around same height & 1½" more shallow in depth. The AVT sounds less boxie & more full...

Lives in the Mid Range.
If this will be a very important cab for you then I would look into custom builds and tell the builder what you are putting inside. A custom 1x12 is a lovely piece of gear for life if done right.

I think they're pricey for what they are, but among the newer stuff, the 1974CX stands out. If you find a used one unloaded, you might be able get it for <$400. (I've seen positive comments about the "aged" T1221 though too.)

Hey guys, I am using 20W old PA head. It is called PA 20. I believe that 1x12 will be enough, I´ve just bought open back 1931 from 1992. It cost around 200 USD, loaded with GT 75, which I will change. I am on a hunt for a greenback from seventies. Hard to find one in good condition that would cost around 250 USD.

You'd be better with a creamback with the wattage of that amp. :yesway:

I have a vintage greenback in this. Sounds like a Marshall should.

I use it with a cranked 20 watt studio vintage with no worries.

One last note... I also have a 2061cx loaded with vintage Greenbacks. It sounds small and tinny compared to the 1x12. I never use it with the 20 watt, just my 50 watt bass head.

An old 1x12 monitor wedge with a speaker swap can make a surprisingly good cab
